Form gives you function. Human beings are marvels of Physics. Thus, the body abides by the laws of physics. The opposite idea of "function gives you form" works, just not with Human Beings. For example, we are not cars, where the function of Speed dictates the form of Sleek, or buildings where the function of storage dictates the form of a warehouse. We are humans and we have muscles that are at preset angles with levers. It is up to us to train our brains how to use each mus...cle cell to get the most out of it. Each exercise we do needs to be done with precise form to train full and efficient function. Proper Form gives us Proper Function. So, anytime you are doing reps, remember you want to put good reps into the brain, not bad ones. If you are supposed to do 20 reps and are stuck at 9, and you are breaking form, then stop. It’s not worth putting the poor form reps into your brain and reinitializing the compensation pattern you are trying to escape. Does being released from care mean you're done with care? In our practice, it means you now have the ability to 1) tell when you need help from us, 2) keep yourself well. This is what we call Maintenance. The stretches you've gotten into a habit doing need to continue to be done. Remember what the stretches are doing for you: You are slapping your brain around every time you stretch, and telling the brain to keep the length you've worked so hard to develop. Do you really thin...k you never need to do them again? HAHA! No way....do them....everyday. How about the workouts? You've worked hard at work/school, and every night you came home tired and hungry. Yet you found time to do your stretches every day and workouts 5-6 times a week. You've gotten sweaty, sore, and spent a lot of money to get out of pain and gain ability. You've told your brain to tone your musculature, prepare for the rigors of life, and to protect your joints. Do you think once you've built it, it will stand forever? For those of you who have forgotten what we told you right before you left our office, here is the blueprint for your maintenance workouts: 1 set of ANY of the workouts you've done 3 times a week in each body area. To elaborate, if you did three areas of workouts, you need to pick one exercise from each area: Upper, CORE, and Lower. No circuits, no "Real" sweating. One set of reps....THAT'S IT! REMEMBER: Form gives you Function If you have a rockerboard, do not let it collect dust in a corner, under a bed, or hide it in a box. Do it twice a week, picking a different direction each time. In two weeks, you should be done with all four directions. We've gone through painstaking efforts to help you develop your feel from the body. You know when your body feels well, and when it feels pain. In between those two, you should also be able to recognize when it doesn't feel as efficient as you remember. That may mean you need help from us to lengthen your tissues and realign the joints the tightened tissues affected before it turns into a pain. Usually, every 4-5 weeks you will need help with the tissues, or at least an adjustment. Text us or send us a FaceBook message to schedule your maintenance visit. 10-12 Maintenance visits a year saves you time, money, and agony. Copyright - 2015 Dr. Tom Iwashita DC

Thanks to all of our loyal patients, and the efforts of our Intern, Doctoral, and Administrative staffs, we are and have been a closed practice. While we may place ads in tournament booklets and media guides, we do not actively market for new patients. Additionally, we do not accept walk in patients, or patients through any organized referral sources like *yelp. Does this mean we do not want new patients? Of course not. We want new patients, but we only take the new patients... who are referred in from our loyal patients and staff. We love it when you talk us up in conversation. We love it when you engage your friends and family about making choices for a practitioner when they get hurt. We love the fact that you feel so strongly about the work we've done with you that our brand comes to the tip of your tongue so easily. We can't have a practice without you. Thank you so much for being such an integral part of our practice. We bring this up because we just hit a trying time for the practice. A group of patients are getting better and they are rotating out of the practice, so more time slots are opening up. And just like the Santa Ana winds whip up, so have the referrals. This is not a time to bask in glory. It is definitely a time to show gratitude. Thank you!

Some patients have wondered out loud about what some of the former Doctoral Interns have been up to. SO let's give you an update on a few of them. Douglass Cheng practiced in San Gabriel for a couple of years before deciding to follow his heart to Hong Kong. He went through the licensing program in HK, and now practices Functional Medicine. Oh.....About the "Following his heart".... He is getting married in March! Chi Wu moved back to his home state of Nevada where he prac...tices in a diversified setting. Whenever someone needs a chiropractor with a Dr. Tom/Roni emphasis, Dr. Wu gets a call. Emeka Aludogbu graduated with his undergraduate degree the day he finished his internship in this office in the summer of 2013. He promptly started his Chiropractic training in the Fall Semester at our Alma Mater: Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. He is planning on graduating in December of 2016. If you are traveling to HK or Vegas and need to get in touch with either of the Dr's, please let me know and I'll get them in touch with you either via email or phone. I know Dr. Wu gets contacted when players are in tournaments in Vegas and get hurt. More updates on other Interns in future posts!
