It’s a dawn of a new day for Sunnyvale! The GRAND OPENING of the new Sunnyvale Whole Foods happens TODAY at 9am! And the latest news is that AMC will ope...n this Friday afternoon for their first movie patrons. Remember to wear your mask and socially distance if you plan to go to these businesses! The Whole Foods Store is fully stocked, and the NOW OPEN sign has gone up. Yesterday, several Councilmembers and City Staff had a short tour. The store looks FANTASTIC inside, with a great variety of fresh and local food, pre-made meals to go, and a brew-pub and pizza/take-away made to order. And right next door, the first movie poster has popped up at the Sunnyvale AMC Theater too! AMC announced yesterday that the will be re-opening (without concessions) in the Bay Area. This has been a long process, but I’m overjoyed that this project is finally coming to completion. I got involved with city operations when the vision of a new downtown was being defined more than 15 years ago. I’m excited to be here as we finally finish an important part of the first phase. Indoor dining, religious gatherings and movie theaters are coming soon! Yesterday, Santa Clara County Health officials announced they are preparing for indoor d...ining at restaurants and gatherings at places of worship later this month. Indoor gatherings would be limited to 100 people or 25% capacity, whichever is LOWER. The changes in the health order would take place the day after the county moves into the ORANGE Tier of the state’s COVID-19 monitoring system. This is expected to happen as early as Wednesday, October 14. It is critical that people follow safe distancing and precautions! Engaging in indoor activities such as dining, going to the movies, or attending religious services, still pose a high risk for spreading COVID-19. If there is a new spike in infections, we could easily move back to the RED or PURPLE Tier. In-store retail is now allowed as well. Each business is applying to have their expanded layout approved. During the pandemic, I will be highlighting our Sunnyvale restaurants that are still providing takeout and/or delivery. PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL RESTAURANTS! Fo...r my late lunch today, I went to an old Sunnyvale Downtown favorite, Hardy's Bavaria [111 West Evelyn, in Murphy Square near Sunnyvale Avenue]. I haven’t been here for years, but the food and service was always good. One of the sisters has now retired, but the other is still putting out wonderful German food. Today, I ordered their Pork Wiener Schnitzel, served with German Potatoes. I also always ask for their warm red cabbage as a side, which I LOVE. I spent extended time in Germany for work, and this is authentic German cuisineVERY GOOD. All I was missing was a big stein of beer. They are open for takeout Tuesday thru Friday 11am-9pm and for dinner on Saturday (4pm-9pm).
