Wanna see something cute? Here are some baby polar bears that will be joining our rescue soon. They are so young they don’t have any teeth, 1lb and needing to be bottle fed. They are with our rescue partner in TJ and going to the vet daily for IVs because they possibly have erlichia from being bitten by ticks but are so small they can’t draw blood for a 4dx test. We aren’t accepting applications for them at this time, so please don’t ask as our main goal is their healing. They are doing good right now but were not doing so good the other day, so getting them over the hump is critical. Rescue is day by day sometimes, but we are going to do everything we can to ensure these little guys have a bright future in the good ol’ US of A. #comingsoon

Self care is important. Enjoy a Bubble bath. #Bubblesfinallypopped (Shoutout @debchavez3 for the foster mom jokes.)

You met Drama in our previous post, and while he was an added bonus of yesterday’s rescue mission, he wasn’t the reason. These guys were. We got word that our beloved Merida, who had been living with us at our facility for the past 2 weeks before being laid to rest late last week, had kids. We were told they were about 4 months old and living on the same property she did, but their owner didn’t want to give them up when he did Mer. As soon as we learned they existed, we f...elt a connection with them. We had to go meet them, and we had to try to give them the life their mom deserved with us but never got. We spent majority of our Sunday hunting for Merida’s puppies in acres of rural ranch land, somewhere in Tecate. We had no clue what they looked like, but the second we saw 2 young pups appear from the bushes, we knew. They are the spitting image of our favorite girl. Catching them would prove to be difficult, but luckily Boy #1 saw our crew and froze, flopped over to give his belly, and let us pick him up. Boy #2 was far less trusting and it took over an hour of sitting with chicken in hand and some quick moves to get him in our care. He’ll come around soon, because just like his mom, food is the way to his heart. Boy #3 and a precious little girl weren’t able to be caught by us yesterday, but we won’t stop until we have them, too. It will take lots of coming back to the same spot, sitting, trust building, and chicken, but we are determined. A huge thank you to Hilda and Rebeca for being the people to rescue Merida 1 month ago and for taking us back to the same spot yesterday. Hilda and Rebeca of At-Choo Foundation are our heroes and the reason we can proudly call 2/4 of Mer’s kids TAP dogs. We can’t wait to get to know them and the little things they do that remind us of her. Soon we will have all 4, and we will tell them stories about their mom, how much we loved her, and how she was way too good for this world. #justrescued See more

Today, we were in Tecate for a very special rescue mission that we will talk about tomorrow. Enter this guy, who we’ve named Drama. First guess is he’s border collie/husky with maybe even a little wolf hybrid in the mix. 3 days ago, he showed up on a random ranch that houses a family of dogs and since they fed him, he never left. We stopped by as we were passing through, and someone living on the property flagged us down, carried him out and asked if we could find him a ...home. We said yes without hesitation, and now we are learning of all the dramatics that make Drama, Drama. Like refusing to walk on a leash probably why this 100lb dog was carried out to us in the first place. Drama threw a tantrum or 12 in the car when we put him in the back seat, and the only place he found acceptable was right smack dab in the middle of a lap. The only bark we’ve heard out of him has been more of a high-pitched whine/scream of disapproval when he doesn’t want to do something pretty wussy for a wolf. He got his first American cheeseburger when we crossed the border which he ate in record time because he doesn’t do anything without flair. He doesn’t drink water but chews it instead, and every time it is as if he is bobbing for apples, dunking half of his big head in the bucket. On top of everything, we learned that Drama is the gentlest giant. He was covered in sticker balls, some so close to his skin that we knew it hurt, and he just plopped down, didn’t fight us and let us help. He’s big, beautiful, and intimidating but wouldn’t hurt a fly. With all of this being things we’ve picked up on in just the past few hours of knowing the guy, we’re even more excited to see what tomorrow brings. These rescue mamas don’t normally do drama, but we’re willing to make an exception for this good boy. Welcome to the fam. #justrescued See more

Betty has transported our dogs in the past and is very deserving of help. If you have anything to spare, it would mean so much to her and the future dogs she will be helping.

We love you, Mer. And we love you Rebeca Altamirano for bringing her to us.

Final score for Bubbles litter 6 girls and 10 boys for a whopping total of 16 PUPPIES!!!!!! That’s a TAP record. We thought it was quite possibly a world record, but some poor dog somewhere had 24 puppies once. Well, Mama Bubbles will never have to go through this again! She was spayed yesterday too, so this is officially her last litter. *pops the bubbly* Between mama and babies, 17 lives have been saved with the rescue of just 1 dog. That’s incredible. Huge thanks... again to @amandastrack and @joey_jones for making it happen, and to @debchavez3 for not deleting our number when we sent the holy shit, 16 puppies text. You are one brave foster and we love you. As for Bubbles, she’s doing great and is already an awesome mom, having to feed puppies in shifts. Someone said it here and we haven’t stopped thinking it can you imagine being pregnant and waking up to 16 babies??? May Dog be with her. See more

We have so many fun things planned for Saturday!

Bubbles has officially POPPED with a little help from our friends at Colony Veterinary Hospital. Our big girl went to the vet today to see what was the hold up and why she still looked like a goat instead of a dog. Dr. D was worried that because she hadn’t already gone into labor naturally, her body wouldn’t, so we made the game time decision to move forward with a c-section for Bubbles. Check out this badassery! Who can guess how many puppies this girl had in her???? Hint: a lot.

Because TAP fosters are always lookin’ out, we’ve got a new addition to introduce today. We received an urgent message from our foster Amanda about this girl we’ve named Bubbles. She met her on a weekend trip and according to the locals, Bubbles has lived on the street in Rosarito for about a year. The locals posted about her on Facebook trying to find her a home but no one wanted her. They said she has always been a sad dog. She’s also a very pregnant dog, and now, she’...s a TAP dog. She’s settling in at our facility but will need a foster very soon. She’s so round, it probably won’t be long until her puppies are born, but it will happen here with us instead of on the streets somewhere. The locals took her to the vet and she supposedly has 10 puppies in that belly. We’ll know for sure soon enough! And don’t worry, we’re already working on the sad part won’t be long until that’s a thing of the past, too. Thank you @amandastrack and @joey_jones for seeing Bubbles, caring, and getting her across to safety. If you are interested in taking in sweet Bubbles as a foster, please head to theanimalpad.org/foster and apply. #ittakesatribe #fosteringsaveslives See more
