Today, Sunday, October 11, 2020: my message as follows: America: Promote life-long learning. The best American free public education systems should result in producing critical thinking life long learners. Trade school/ trade guilds and or College/ "higher education " are equally valuable and viable options that must be available to all who want to pursue either and or both at every stage of the life cycle. There, that feels more accessible to all, exclusive of none.... Just imagine, what America could have achieved if that were the messaging that drove the policy that had guided the most recent four post-POTUS44 years. Yes, Ste.Uyc., IMAGINE THAT! My name is Vernon Nickerson, BSIE, MA. I am the Chief Schoolcoach at Vernon Nickerson Schoolcoach. I AND MY ANCESTORS APPROVE THIS MESSAGE! IT IS OUR STORY, AND NOW ALSO MY SONG!

"Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope " inspired me to purchase a "large print" edition of "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope: A Musical Entertainment", by Micki Grant, as conceived by Vinnette Carroll. In the same vein as one of Stevie Wonder's Magnum Opii, " Songs in The Key of Life" does, "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope " is a timeless classic and profoundly, pervasively, passionately prescient and CENTRAL to the current "sedated by morphine " state of this once, upon a time shinin...g city on a hill- this Union, this United States of America. As a series of Essays in the Public Interest, I propose to engage the text of "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope "through critical analysis in the same way theologians and billions of laypersons of all ages have engaged that "other" infamous seminal text of sacred literature The Bible ( Old and New Testaments). Currently at a minimum , the free BIBLE GATEWAY app holds 530 unique translations in English of this perennially demonized/lionized anthology and source of a tortured and tumultuous history of death, destruction, murder, chaos, fear, and terror. When I launched this platform at the dawn of the 21st Century, I believed with every cell and fiber of my being, that "ANYONE/ EVERYONE CAN LEARN ANYTHING/ EVERYTHING with the optimal alliance of learner, parent, or teacher. That remains my core belief. That belief is supported by 48 years of applied pedagogy and praxis. "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope ", is simply, elegantly, trenchantly, profoundly, poignantly, passionately, persistently, and pervasively, my "yang" to the proverbial "yin" of my core belief. And me exploiting a once-in-lifetime opportunity to plant the seeds of independent lifelong learning. At the now INFAMOUS AND EPIC beginning of my being literally and figuratively pushed into homelessness on March 4, 2020 by an evil cabal of 1 Mestizo Social service agency newly-minted Executive Director, 2 of his trusted Homeless prevention case managers, 2 Caucasian Karen's ( yes, the pejorative stereotypical 2020 COVID-19 superspreader kind), 1 "complicit Silent Karen who watched it "go down", and their Jamaican Karen with her "down-low-pretender" husband, I rediscov...ered a seminal masterpiece of off-Broadway theater back in the day, "Don’t Bother Me, I Can't Cope!". This entire "PEARL OF GREAT PRICE" is free to enjoy on YouTube; 52:12 you will be blown away by, if you listen as if your life depended upon it. If this week's inaugural POTUS debate was still not enough to convince you that your life depends on doing exactly as I have suggested, move on, this is not the site you were looking for. Nothing for you here. See more

She asks: 9:ish, seen at 10 something in the AM: Do any of you have concerns with the amount of "busy work" your children are receiving with virtual schooling? My daughter is in 3rd grade, and she spends a considerable amount of time working on assignments that aren't necessarily challenging, but time consuming. I've also noticed that the teacher spends a lot of the zoom time urging students to complete assignments, while reminding them that their grades will be negatively i...mpacted if they do not. The "breaks" in between are mainly spent working on those assignments with little time for anything else. My daughter has been able to keep up with all of her assignments and is doing "well" in terms of grades, but I often think there isn't enough balance. I can easily understand why many students are not completing all of the assignments that are given on a daily basis. The students in the class also have not gotten any time to interact with one another via zoom. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to address this without adding to the teacher's frustration? Any insight would be appreciated. I share: MJ: Good Thursday morning. My POV as regards your already well-stated issue is as a 48-year educational professional in K-12 and upper division college classrooms. Everything that a teacher is reminding students to to because it "impacts their grade" needs to be directly tied to a lesson plan that needs to support specific learning objectives. Before stating your concern, make some quick notes with specific artifacts ( the work your learner has been asked to do) and how from your POV (i.e., you are one of two or more people who knows things about your child based on having been together far longer than any of her teachers ) that appear to be busy work. Then state your concern exactly as you've stated it here. If, by some miracle it turns out not to be busy work ( I hate busy work and am betting your suspicions are correct because you have chosen to be a part of forums of your teaching colleagues like Pandemic Pods Main), your immediate "ask" is for resources that will maximize your learners interest and engagement and development as an independent, self-actuated lifelong learner. The good-better-best teachers will love you FOREVER! . If this is not your outcome post-consult, please come back here and give an update on any other outcome(s) and I am sure you will get further solid support from the group. NB, this is not a paid endorsement, just me taking the opportunity to rave! about the high caliber of this particular community. Note: MJ is not the questioner's name in real life. On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, we still get great questions from teachers. Here is my attempt at a fact-based reply. A reply loaded with verifiable content, America. #W2RTV, #northwesternuniversity Ms. E's original question: on Tuesday, 9.22.2020: I'm an early childhood special education teacher and today we start hybrid instruction. The ... majority of my class has chosen to come in seat. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around teaching both in seat and virtual learners at the same time. Any help or suggestions would be great! S. E., I have no tips on your specific issue. HOWEVER, I am curious as to if you work in a private school or for a public school district in the USA ? Since COVID-19, my former employer, LAUSD 1.) put me on the COVID-19 high risk list after March 13, 2020 , 2.) took me off when it decided we would work only in virtual classrooms after April 12, 2020, and then, 3.) after UTLA self published a 17 page data-verifiable-with-APA-citations paper in PDF titled "Same Storm, Different Boats, Superintendent Austin Beutner and his advisors took a bold step as Educational Leaders and proclaimed 100% virtual learning would be the baseline norm for the 2020-2021 academic year. I like to think that even without classroom experience, Austin Beutner made the same decision most parents who love their children would make in a heartbeat, or NY minute! If you are in the USA, have no POCs as Teachers, Admin, support staff, paraprofessionals, and or parents or students, and EVERYONE HAS CADILLAC HEALTH PLANS, I suppose they could have a legal case for justifying what you say you are being asked to do. You probably have realized by now that I resigned from LAUSD after it took over 19 months to obtain a double-time accommodation ( from iCAPP CO- directors Dr. Patricia Pernin and Dr. Tracy Eagle for academic research and writing for a non-life-threatening-but- chronic-and-treatable visual disorder called Blepharospasm. This is an utterly ridiculous and wildly inappropriate amount of time to receive an ADA- compliant request it took my ( sadly, regrettably former doctoral program 24 hours to grant back in the good old days of 2014. NCU, represent! By the way, that LAUSD/iCAPP outcome happened ONLY because of "activist (!) educational leadership and direct advocacy from Ms. Melissa Winters ( and witnessed in the same LAUSD ZOOM room by Vice-Principals Valerie Chow and Elva Warren). All that being said, ( finally!) I would assess what you describe prima facie as unwise, not based on any known science or pedagogical research in the 21st Century and a high risk most of us POCs do not have the luxury of time, money, or strong and engaged family support to even think about undertaking. I wish you will always do what your mind tells you is "the next right thing"! [email protected]

Questions for my fellow California registered voters about Ms. Dana Williamson. Apparently, she was instrumental in Gov. Gavin Newsom's decision to sign a bill into law that: 1.) Gives judges discretionary power to not have some adults convicted of vaginal penetration register as sex offenders with as long as the age difference is 10 years or less between perpetrator and victim 2.) Is something that will benefit the LGTBQ+ community, and 3.) Will, according to some con...servatives, incentivize pedophiles 24 years of age to sexually exploit 14 year olds I am horrified and appalled by this news! Is anyone else concerned? Why is this stuff on anyone's agenda at this time 9.13.2020 in the midst of CAs dubious COVID-19 testing, treatment, and mortality rates!?! Full disclosure: I have only read news items from Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles ( LA TIMES), so in no way am I an authority on the news reportage. I would love for someone with more extensive and verifiable information to prove that this is fake news. Please read, comment, and share to help me understand WHAT IS GOING ON. Married, BA in International Relations fromUC Davis, senior positions with Brown, now Newsom. Has multiple CA Proposition victories "under her belt", some in education ( find out which ones). Discover how she got to hold and wield power and influence. Has she ever taught in a public or private school? Has she ever been a social worker? Who are her parents? What did they do? Is either side of her family wealthy? Is she or spouse or her children LGBTQ+ ( sidebar, what does the + sign mean?) Besides the strong possibility that she knows Austin Beutner, what other Educational Leaders does she know socially and or professionally? Has any Educational leader been her client? Why was it so important for Newsom to sign this bill into law at this moment in time? Would a female of color or a LGBTQ+ POC have pushed this same bill? Why, or why not? Is this a stunning development or did everyone else expect it to happen? What CA educational leaders and or social work professionals, PTAs or MFTs or clincal psychologists, or psychiatrists support this new law? How many from those guilds support the law as written? How did this happen? Why did this happen now? Why didn't the people vote before it became law? See more
