With the Post 291 restaurant closed for in-person dining, we need your help spreading the word about the Post's Drive-Thru meal service. This helps preserve jobs for the employees we love and depend on so much. It is open to the public and the menu changes frequently with innovative healthy and hearty specials prepared by our chefs fresh every day. The drive through is open Monday through Friday from 11 - 6, Saturday from 12 - 5, and Sunday from 10-5. So get on your bicycle, skateboard, boat, or car and go grab a bite to eat. Check out the daily menu and please come visit us soon! Please share this post and spread the word. https://www.al291.com/drive-thru

A letter from the Commodore... Ahoy! I am honored to inform all of you that the American Legion Yacht Club has been awarded 2020 Club of the Year by the Southern California Yachting Association! This not only marks the second consecutive award for ALYC, but we won this in our first year as a member of the Senior Category, a competitive group of the largest yacht clubs within SCYA.... This award goes only to the club that earned the most points on the criteria predetermined by SCYA. The criteria are wide ranging and cover items like hosting of regattas, cruises, youth sailing, charitable endeavors, club officer attendance at SCYA events, and many other items. In short, an active club that has a full schedule has a chance at this award, and then we really have to make it happen by executing on our plans and participating fully within SCYA, which we always strive to do. We must recognize the efforts of your board of directors, who started the year with great plans and intentions, only to see those plans dashed by this global pandemic. Not surprisingly, this group of veterans found a way to adapt and overcome the obstacles and still put together a year that culminated in this award. We had to adapt to meeting online, and adhering to schedules without the reminders we normally have when seeing each other more frequently. Once events were in motion, extra protocols and procedures had to be developed. Last, our members had to attend! And many of you did, both online and at our cruises and events we were able to hold in person. We could not have done it without some outstanding individuals that volunteered their time this year to get it all done. We will talk more on this in January when we host an online Change of Watch Ceremony and recognize some individual achievements from this year. But for now, in a year of plot twists, fear, and frustration, it sure does feel good to reflect on this year and see a bright spot. Please take a moment and reflect on this achievement as we look forward to seeing you all together again soon. Fair Winds, Bruce Batcheller Commodore

On this day, we honor our Veterans who have fought tirelessly for our freedoms and the freedoms of others, both past and present. Your American Legion Yacht Club thanks all Veterans for their service and commitment to their country. Please post a picture of yourself, your spouse, your family member, or even a dear friend that served our great nation. Our Commodore, Bruce Batcheller will kick it off with this photo. This is him in 1994 as a young Army 1st Lieutenant deep in the woods in a Field Artillery unit.

ALYC completed our inaugural summer season of Model Yachting by celebrating with good food and drink and recognizing the achievements of our new model yacht sailors. We thank everybody who came out this year to help kick off the program. We will have more races during the coming months, and many more opportunities for new sailors to give it a try. ALYC owns three boats and they are available for our members who participate!

Ready or not, here we come! If you haven't registered and still want to, please hurry. The fleet departs tomorrow. We have an outstanding group of boaters and campers signed up and it should be a great weekend. The sea conditions will be calm and the weather should be nice. Hope to see you out there!

Two amazing events over one great weekend! Come race your way to Catalina September 11 - 13. We will kick off the weekend Friday with the first leg of the Blue Water Regatta and our annual cruise to Emerald Bay. The Corsair Yacht Club has graciously reserved the Corsair Cove for us all weekend. We have moorings, grills, electricity, hot showers, private beach. And the Boy Scouts have offered to rent us cabins, water toys, mountain bikes and other amenities. You don't need a boat to enjoy the weekend with us, but if you have one and it sails, we'll race ya! For more information, visit www.alyc.com or send email to [email protected].
