We have been silent for far too long. This past week we have taken the time to educate ourselves. We have been awakened through honest and inspirational conversation. Black Lives Matter! We stand with the black community in fight for racial justice and social equality. @rehima23 will be hosting a donation class on IG Live for https://colorofchange.org/ on 6/9. We know a donation class isn’t enough and we recognize we have a long way to go but lets take these firsts steps to c...reate awareness and make change. Here is a small part of Rehima’s story. Hi! I am Rehima Jordan, professional LA dancer, signed with MTA and proud AKT trainer. I’m from PA, took a leap of faith to CA June, 2019. I started dancing at 6 with the Pittsburgh CLO (a musical theatre academy). I was 1 of few black children, which opened my eyes to the realities of the world. Numerous roles were not available to me. This didn’t stop me from sharing the stage with Jeff Goldblum & Sally Struthers to name a few. My first major/favorite role, was Cathy Rigby’s Peter Pan. I was excited to play Nibs, but it further opened my eyes to the double edged sword of being gifted and black. Prior to focusing on dance, I simultaneously played 5 sports. One day, my hard-working single mother discussed time-management and passion with me and I chose dance! Being active runs in my family and is a shared value between me and my boyfriend of 7 years going strong! I attended a private school, catholic school, public school and then private college. 50% of my academic experience, I was one of <5 students of color in the entire school. This meant, I was 9 years old (3rd grade) when I received blatant racial discrimination in school; 15, when I experience a semblance of diversity; 17, when I was confronted with the notion that I was not black enough and 19, when I shared classes with students from Beijing to Madagascar (No, their animals don’t talk - I asked). At age 21, I graduated with a BA in Molecular Biology, one of few women of color in my major - commenced into the real world by Oprah Winfrey. I am an only child of an Afro-Latin single mother, Black, Proud, and in an interracial relationship.(partially long distance).
