PAULA DEEN FIRES LEGAL TEAM: The first thing I though when I heard that Paula Deen's response to whether she ever used the N** word was "of course!" I thought, who is her legal counsel and why in the world would they tell her to give that response. Any good civil litigator knows that depositions can make or break your case. There were several ways to deal with how to answer this question and it was bound to be a question at some point of her deposition. The fact that she w...asn't properly prepped as to how to respond is astounding. Even worse, the thought that maybe her legal team told her that saying "of course!" would be a good response and in her best interest. She had to admit to the use, but she could have began with a statement saying she appreciates the level of history, hurt and pain that word has and that when she used it many years ago, she had no intention of reviving the negative connotations associated with the word. As a Black woman I am not offended as I don't believe she intended any harm and I believe many public figures have done far worse things. This result forces those harmed to seek legal representation to address their loss and repair the health of the business if possible.
