The Grove at Cerritos

Our Fall Festival was filled with smiles all week long. We participated in "Season It Yourself" Popcorn, tailored treats from our Chef, marbleized mugs, name that Cucurbita and Pumpkin Whiff-Whaff. We all got a pumpkin to take home!

Tech Savy Happy Hour is hands-on! Residents get to try out and learn about new technology, so that it becomes part of our lives. Next month, mini, touch free drones!

The Grove at Cerritos is rolling out the fun, just in time for Oktoberfest. The senior living community invites residents to don their dirndl or lederhosen and join neighbors for a socially distanced celebration. With precautionary measures in mind, there will be fall-inspired beverages, such as pumpkin ciders as well as traditional German ales. The activity is just one of the many opportunities planned by the creative Zest Department to keep residents active and engaged.

The Rose Garden is the backdrop for a mid-morning fitness class at The Grove at Cerritos. Being mindful of safety precautions, the activity is held in an outdoor area which provides plenty of space for residents to maintain the recommended physical distance. Under the guidance of the Zest Director, they can lift, balance and pedal their way to a healthier lifestyle.

Give a warm, virtual "hi" to our resident Kathleen H., who is 100 years young. For National Centenarian's Day, we are sharing her story. Always active, Kathleen was an avid hiker and organized many summer camps for children. The most risky thing she has done is be a swimming coach for kids during summer camp. Her favorite things about living at The Grove is the full calendar fitness classes, social events and relaxing in the rose garden.

It's National Centenarian's Day, and we are spotlighting resident Leona P., who is 102! A hard worker, Leona grew up on a farm and was naturally creative, eventually going to school for painting and staining glass as well as sewing. Her secret to longevity? "Eat well, take care of yourself." It's no surprise that one of Leona's favorite things is catching up with friends and eating at The Grove's restaurant!

A very special Happy Birthday to Kathleen. One hundred years, a special birthday zoom, and an incredible Drive-up Birthday made this birthday unforgettable.

Patriot Day is observed annually in memory of the people who died in the September 11th attacks in 2001. The Grove at Cerritos will pause to reflect on the tragedy and host a Step-A-Thon to pay tribute to the brave New York firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Residents and staff will come together while physically apart to take 4,180 steps, the equivalent of the 110 flights of stairs in the World Trade Center.

Without having to pack a bag, residents will visit China to explore the country’s most well-known landmarks. The virtual tour will include stops at the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. The Zoom sessions enable residents to learn about the culture, food and history from the safety and comfort of their residences. In addition to China, they’ll also head to the Florida Keys to explore these tropical islands.

Smiles everywhere!

Each month, The Grove at Cerritos hosts a Let’s Dish session, inviting residents to learn about upcoming menu options. Residents’ feedback is also solicited, and they are encouraged to submit their favorite recipes to be added to the menu. Due to social distancing, the senior living community has reformatted the sessions. In August, the culinary team will deliver individual baskets of fresh ingredients and an easy-to-follow recipe card to residents to create a mouthwatering vegetarian dish for Let’s Dish.

SRG communities nationwide are hosting art shows with the theme of "Resilience, Togetherness & Overcoming". We put a spin on our community art show with our inspiration being technology. All of our pieces are digital art created by our residents! Our residents snuck in early before the show's opening day to sign their artwork.

Residents at The Grove at Cerritos are social distancing, but they are still staying active and maintaining healthy habits. The senior living community offers numerous opportunities for physical activity, including virtual fitness. From the comfort and convenience of their residences, they can log into their computers or tablets to take an exercise class. Plus, the culinary team delivers gourmet, healthy and delicious menu options each day, ensuring a well-balanced diet.
