Wednesday Program, March 11, 2020 The Carmel Foundation Presents Celtic Band TipperaryThe Wearin’ of the Green! In anticipation of Saint Patrick’s Day, The Carmel Foundation proudly presents the Celtic band Tipperary, whose band members are Shirley Tofte on Irish fiddle, Robin Keeler on cello, Roger Kern on guitar and Jan Cornish on tenor banjo. The band will be playing traditional Irish tunes, so don’t forget to wear your green and tap your toes! Diment Hall, 2:30pm to 4:00pm, space is limited to 100. Tour--"Les Miserables"--Broadway San Jose--Saturday, April 25th, 2020 Direct from a celebrated two-and-a-half-year return to Broadway, the Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon "Les Miserables" comes to Broadway San Jose! Its glorious new staging and dazzlingly reimagined scenery, inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, have left audiences and critics alike awestruck. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, the play tells an enthralling story of broken dreams, unre...quited love, sacrifice and redemption, all a timeless testament to the strength of the human spirit. The score is packed with classics such as "I Dreamed a Dream" and "On My Own", plus many more. Lunch is on your own at any of many nearby restaurants, and maps will be provided on the bus. Don't miss this epic theatrical experience! The bus will leave the Crossroads at 9:00 am for San Jose. Depart the theater at 5:15 pm and arrive in Carmel at 7:00 pm. Wednesday Program--March 4, 2020-- Visually Impaired? Is that me? Hear about misconceptions of what low vision is and what services are available for the totally blind. The most common eye conditions that can cause low vision in older adults are: cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration. You may have low vision if you cannot see well enough to do things like: read, drive, recognize faces, tell colors apart, or see your television and computer scr...een. Esmeralda Ortiz, Orientation and Mobility Instructor, M.A. will cover age eye-related pathologies, and services you can receive from the Blind and Visually Impaired Center. Keep an eye on your independence! Diment Hall, 2:30pm to 4:00pm. Refreshments are served, seating limited to 100. This presentation is free and open to the public. Dixieland Fills the Halls of The Carmel Foundation! In anticipation of Monterey’s 40th Annual Dixieland Festival in Early March, The Carmel Foundation proudly welcomed Bob Phillips and Friends for today's Wednesday Program in Diment Hall. Toes were tappin' and hands were clappin' as . Phillips, Monterey’s Dixieland Permanent Artist in Residence" and named Musician of the Year by Monterey’s "Dixieland Festival, played that syncopated rhythm with his amazing bandmates! We hope you were there to enjoy such classics as "St. James' Infirmary" and "Rockin' Chair", and thanks to Bob and Friends for a great event!

Grandpals at The Carmel Foundation! As promised, more photos, lots of 'em, from the Foundation's monthly Grandpals program in which our members join forces with students from Carmel River Elementary School to share stories, relate experiences and just plain have fun! February's Valentine's Day Tea Party was a lovely event complete with chintz china teacups and saucers and tasty treats! As always, the guests enjoyed each other's company immensely, and we all look forward to seeing what our March (and Spring), event brings to the Foundation. Stay tuned!

Wednesday Program--Bob Phillips and FriendsDixieland Piano Music, February 26, 2020 To get you moving to the beat of the music and in anticipation of Monterey’s 40th Annual Dixieland Festival in Early March, The Carmel Foundation presents authentic Dixieland music performed by Bob Phillips and Friends. Phillips has been named Musician of the Year by Monterey’s Dixieland Festival and is Monterey’s Dixieland Permanent Artist in Residence. Join us on Wednesday, February 26 in Diment Hall from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. This presentation is free and open to the public, so don’t miss this toe-tappin’ musical event!

Once a month, members of The Carmel Foundation get together with friends who just happen to be students at Carmel River Elementary School to share stories, experiences and just plain fun!
