New from @lallemandbrewing: Voss Kveik Ale Yeast - Read on for details about this truly unique strain: Kveik is a Norwegian word meaning yeast. In the Norwegian farmhouse tradition, kveik was preserved by drying and passed from generation to generation. Kveik is the original, traditional dried yeast! The LalBrew Voss strain was obtained from Sigmund Gjernes (Voss, Norway), who has maintained this culture using traditional methods since the 1980s and generously shared it with... the wider brewing community. LalBrew Voss supports a wide range of fermentation temperatures between 25-40C (77-104F) with a very high optimal range of 35-40C (95-104F). Very fast fermentations are achieved within the optimal temperature range with full attenuation typically achieved within 2-3 days. The flavor profile is consistent across the entire temperature range: neutral with subtle fruity notes of orange and citrus. Flocculation is very high producing clear beers without filtration or use of process aids. Call to claim yours today!

Growing enough homegrown hops to use recklessly in every phase of the brewing process is a lot of fun and a brewer’s rite of passage. We have two vigorous growers in stock this spring: Cascade and Centennial. Claim yours today, they won’t be here long!

Having trouble getting your preferred brewing water right now? Don’t let it keep you from brewing. We’ve got several options to remove chlorine or off-flavors, deionize completely or to tune your tap water to fit each recipe with minerals and acids. Just need a quick and easy solution to remove chlorine or chloramine? One crushed campden tablet will treat up to 20 gallons of water in just a few minutes, oxidizing the chlorine and sulfite to leave behind insignificant levels of chloride and sulfate. Few things that sound this complicated are this simple, but this is a rare exception.

Last night, Stay at Home and Safer at Home orders went into effect for both California and Los Angeles County. We find ourselves in a gray area within the framework of these orders, but we do understand the spirit and necessity of them. For this reason, and for the duration of this order, we will no longer permit customers inside our business. Instead, you can place an order via phone or email, and pay via phone. Your order will be left outside for pick up at a time of yo...ur choosing. This can and will change as the days press forward, but this is our best guidance at the moment. We may reduce hours or close completely (but temporarily) in the days ahead. How have we arrived at today’s decision? Los Angeles (and other counties in the state) list in their orders essential businesses. Among these are establishments engaged in the retail sale of dry goods. Whole grains, sugars and rolled oats are examples of dry goods and surely match the types of items we offer. But is it essential for patrons to enter? This is not an easy decision, but we believe we can function without direct customer interface, and do our part to mitigate contact with one another. This strategy leaves us in technical compliance with our leadership’s guidance, but honoring the spirit of them as well. We will continue to take our sanitary practices very seriously, and advise that you do the same. Thank you for your continued support, Dylan

7 years ago today, thirsty brewers were running grain through our mill for the first time. Some of our best customers have been with us since that fateful day, but we continue to add new customers who understand the value of a local homebrew shop. Cheers to you all, and cheers to another year doing what we love- making great beer and great friends

We’ve had a lot of new hop varieties come through recently, but none of them live up to the tropical descriptor like Samba. Not subtle AT ALL. Enjoy!
