Just finished delivering 6 hours of EMDR Basic Training Parts 1 and 2 for therapists learning this powerful trauma therapy in Oakland at Kehilla Synagogue. Thanks to all who helped, April Wise, Sharon Haase, Janie Sheedy, Fabi Contreras, Daisy Orellana, and especially Oscar Velasco who designed the fabulously beautiful EMDR Standard Protocol banner you see in the background. Therapists from the Bay Area, including Lincoln Families and Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center came to learn EMDR. And thanks to Dee Ward at Kehilla who was more than organized, welcoming, efficient, and helpful!

This weekend I had the privilege of completing a training of a wonderful group of 29 therapists in the basics of EMDR Therapy, Parts 1 and 2. They are Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center therapists in the Bay Area, led by clinical director Rawna Romero. My team and I will also work with these therapists in 10 hours of consultation as they start their work with EMDR Therapy. After 6 full days of training and practicum, the therapists were clearly picking it up enthusiastic...ally and very excited about learning new ways to help others heal from emotional and physical trauma. Thanks to April Wise, Sharon Haase, and Janie Sheedy for their expert facilitation of practicum groups. And to Oscar Velasco at Digraph for his technical and artistic support. Finally, thanks to Jamie Marich for all her efforts to make this happen, including designing a smoking hot curriculum for teaching EMDR Therapy! See more

Finishing up 4 days in Seattle at EMDRIA 2017 Conference. Excellent speakers. Ana Gomez is a genius in her work with children and gave an amazing talk. Exciting stuff. More and more understanding of the need to identify and work with dissociation as EMDR therapists. Great discussions about improving quality of EMDR trainings. Enjoyed meeting up with faculty of Institute for Creative Mindfulness and meeting folks at our booth. Beautiful night on the wharf in Seattle. Thank you EMDRIA!

Hi Friends, On Friday, October 6, 2017, I am presenting Dissociation Demystified, a 3-hour introductory overview on how to work with clients who dissociate. You’ll learn to recognize the four types of dissociation, how to speak to clients about the concept, and how to teach clients self-regulation tools. Besides that, we’ll cover ways to deal with our own fear of dissociation and common approaches to treatment. The training is for licensed and pre-licensed clinicians who ...work with persons who have experienced chronic childhood trauma and have developed dissociative patterns as a result of that trauma. Hope you can make the trainingFriday October 6, 2017at Lafayette Library. Sponsored by Bay Area Psychotherapy Institute, Lafayette Lafayette Library, October 6, 2017 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette 94549. Ceus available.

The movie Split, as usual, portrays DID (formerly multiple personality disorder) in an overly dramatic, exploitative way. This NPR interview with a survivor and a DID expert debunks a lot of myths and is very understandable, clear, and interesting. http://wnpr.org/po/movies-get-split-personalities-all-wrong

I very much enjoyed assisting Dr. Jamie Marich, Irene Rodriguez, and the Institute for Creative Mindfulness at its EMDRIA Part I training in Puerto Rico this weekend. Jamie's EMDR curriculum is excellent. Students get a chance to practice all 8 phases of the EMDR protocol. Everyone was enthusiastic and welcoming. And the island was just as charming as I remembered it from my last visit when I was 16!
