A new year is upon us and so is a dangerous rise in #COVID19 cases in #California. As we step into 2021, be mindful of how your actions can affect your loved ones and your community. Together, we can overcome COVID-19.

Here are some key highlights for Holiday Safety that police advise for your home, travel and self: At Home Make sure all doors and windows have secondary locks (window pins, deadbolts, dowels, etc.) and use them!... Don’t hide spare keys in mailboxes or planters, or under doormats. Ensure that dark areas and entrances have outdoor lights that are turned on after dark or are activated by sensors. Keep trees and shrubbery trimmed so they do not conceal doors and windows. Remember, overgrown foliage can provide a hiding place for criminals. Place gifts where they can’t be seen from the outside. Consider safe deposit boxes for coin and stamp collections, seldom-worn jewelry, stock bonds, etc. Be sure to mail cards, checks or gift certificates from the Post Office or at a blue U.S. Postal Service collection box. Lock your vehicle and remove all the valuables. Yes, even in your driveway. Strangers at your Door Use caution anytime there is a stranger at your door. Be suspicious of unexpected sales calls or deliveries. Ask for identification. Be aware of scams that criminals commit to take advantage of people’s generosity during the holidays. Investigate charities before making donations. Ask how the funds will be used. Leaving for the Holidays Ask a trusted friend, neighbor or Neighborhood Watch member to watch your home. Use timers for lights and radios while you are away. Remember to make arrangements for mail and newspapers. After the Holidays Don’t advertise expensive toys, electronics, or other gifts received by the boxes left for garbage collections. Compress large boxes and place them in black garbage bags for pick-up. Add new items to your home inventory. Take photos or video of all items of value in your home and list each item’s make, model, serial number and other information. Engrave new items to help identify them in the event they are stolen. Have a Happy and Safe Holiday Season from all of us at TCC!

Just adding to the earlier post about all the earthquakes happening near us.

Well folks, it's day 10 of 10 Days of Preparedness. What a better way to end Preparedness Month than with the shared image I just took of the current swarm of earthquakes hitting CA right now! Our final recommendation is to make sure you have the right places to get the right information about local emergencies. Here are some to save and have ready so that you know what's happening and if it's affecting your safety:... * AM station 1610 * CHP Incident webpage (hwy closures) * 951-506-5111 - City's pre-recorded info line * Channel 3/community Channel for Spectrums and Frontier * City website (homepage will have direct info on it) * Follow the City on social media pages Please remember that news can spread quickly about an event, but verified information will come from any one if these recommendations, so be sure to respond to accurate information vs misinformation.

Day 9 of 10 Days of Preparedness. It's late in the evening, but if you had an emergency right now and local phone lines were down do you have an out of state contact selected yet? Do you know if they would answer your call at this hour? Do your household members know that number by memory and possibly have coins to call from a payphone if you cell battery were dead? Make sure you have an out of area/out of state emergency contact, and that they know that is their role for you.

Day 8 of 10 Days of Preparedness. With all the planning this month and procurement of emergency supplies have you also taken into consideration the utilities needed to clean and cook with, to keep clean and cool, or warm with? Consider what you would do if there was no power, no gas to cook with or heat up with. How would you cook or boil water? How would you shower?... How would you communicate and keep your cell, laptop, radios working? See more

Day 7 of 10 Days of Preparedness. We're sure you've seen the many stories and news feeds just this year alone if families having to quickly evacuate their homes. Most of the time there is no time to think of what to grab. Get your personal documents and photos together and save them on a flashdrive. It'll make it easier to have access to your accounts, identification, birth certificates, social security cards, and family photos.

Day 6 of 10 Days of Preparedness. Sometimes we come across a situation where we aren't sure how to help a victim in need of medical first aid. They could be bleeding, choking, have burns, be affected by the heat, or even be having what seems to you to be a heart attack or stroke. Be sure to take a CPR and First Aid class. Be sure to know how to identify basic medical emergencies to help your loved ones and others with what you learn regarding basic first aid, as it could still save someone's life! **(This post unfortunately did not save yesterday which day 6).
