Approximately 65 people gave Scott Warnasch a warm Tehama County welcome when he came to the Tehama County Museum tonight to share how his forensic investigatio...n and research helped discover the identity and history surrounding the "Lady In the Iron Coffin" who was uncovered by construction crews in 2011 in Queens, New York. It was a FANTASTIC journey through time!! We learned how the Industrial Age changed funerary practices. We learned how modern technology helped reveal clues about the woman's life and the smallpox that killed her. We learned she had arthritis, hammertoes, and bunions. And we saw her young face before the ravages of smallpox as reconstructed by a forensic artist. We were very impressed and humbled with the turn out considering it was a weeknight and the uncertainty with PG&E. (But there's really nothing that will stop history loving people from coming together to meet, learn, and enjoy good conversation, right?) Scott delivered some great history and forensic archaeology that engaged everyone, young and old, in attendance. We'd like to thank Scott for a wonderful presentation, the Museum for partnering with us to host Scott, and most of all to everyone who expressed interest and/or came tonight.
