#MitzvahMonday We hope you’re ready! Martin Luther King Day of Service is this upcoming Monday! Here is information from our Social Action Committee: Each year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, people of different faiths and different cultural backgrounds will work for the good of the community. For the 13th year, members of Temple Emanu-El and those in other Jewish, Christian, LDS and Muslim congregations will help beautify San Diego, in safe, socially distanced projects. The morning will begin with a short virtual program which will include comments by several leaders of faith communities. Specific plans are still being developed. Watch the Temple website and the January bulletin for more details, or contact the Social Action Committee at [email protected]. Make this a day on rather than a day off to honor Dr. King’s work.

#FYIFriday Please join us tonight from 6:00-7:00 for Livestream Shabbat Services! Visit TEESD.org for more information. On January 19th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm we will be hosting a Cybersecurity Webinar: On behalf of the Safety & Security Committee it is our pleasure to offer our congregation, friends and family a cyber-security webinar. Alec Irwin; a Temple Emanu-El member will lead us in an information driven presentation on how you can protect yourself and others from hac...kers and other cyber threats. Threats can primarily be divided into both ‘technical’ (such as someone cracking your password) and ‘social’ (such as a scammer impersonating your bank over the phone.) We will discuss both of these types of threats at length, and also focus on threats specific to the Jewish community. There will be an opportunity for questions after the presentation is over. If you have any questions about cyber-security now, please feel free to send them to us beforehand, we may even include them in the presentation! About our Speaker: Alec Irwin is employed as a Network Engineer and certified CompTIA Security+, which represents competency in network security, threats and vulnerabilities, and cryptography as well as several other IT related topics. More information to follow at TEESD.org

Dear Temple Emanu-El Family, We hope this email finds everyone holding up okay during this stressful situation. At the synagogue we are continuing to monitor and adjust. To that end, know that we will continue to reach out and offer opportunities for connection in the days and weeks to come. In the meantime, we have made the decision to suspend all in-person gatherings through April 6th in accordance with city recommendations, best social-distancing practices, and to do o...ur best to be responsible participants in helping slow the spread of the virus. Services will be webcast as usual (https://video.ibm.com/channel/zZDqXjkrYgJ) We are working to figure out the best way to offer Torah study and other learning opportunities. More information will come as we have it to share. Our office team is still working at the synagogue every day along with our maintenance staff. The office team will be reaching out to every Temple family to make sure we have current emergency contact information for all of our members and to make sure everyone is doing okay. Please be sure to let our rabbis or our office staff know if you need any assistance with anything. If you are in the high risk age group for the virus and you don't feel safe leaving the house to do grocery shopping or to pick up medications, please let us know so we can have a volunteer assist with those necessities. If you are stuck home and would like to volunteer to help our elderly members and you are in excellent health, please let our office staff know so we can create our list of "Mitzvah Makers." Please know that we are here for all of you and we are working to find opportunities for learning and connection. We hope you will take advantage of the live webcasting for services and tune in together from home this Shabbat so we can connect virtually and bring Shabbat in together with warmth, love, and community. We love you all and we send you good wishes for a speedy passing of this virus and a full measure of health. L'Shalom, Rabbi Devorah Rabbi Benj Eric Rosenzweig Jeff Schindler
