Let’s all welcome the newest, full member of Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club, John Sandoval. To become a full member of TDS takes lots of time, commitment and dedication! John has shown his willingness to give back on multiple occasions, volunteering to help with our Desert Safari as well as Trail Cleanups!!! From all of the members of Tierra Del Sol, welcome to the family!!! Bio About John; I’ve been a Medic/Fire Captain for over 20 years. I’ve had a few different Jeep...s over the years, my current Jeep is a White 4 door JKU. I have 3 kids, occasionally you’ll see my son Ty with me. He loves going off roading and hopes to get his own Jeep soon. I live in Imperial County and grew up playing around in Glamis and Superstition. I’m friends with John Foster, Amy Volmer, Joey & Maizen Tipton and Mark & Lisley Davenport. I wanted to join TDS because I saw how TDS helps the offroad community and I wished to be a part of that. 10/24/20 Devils Canyon Adopt a Trail and Trail Cleaning What a fantastic day on Devils Canyon, officially adopting the trail as well as giving back and cleaning up!!! At first glance the canyon looked very clean UNTIL you really started looking. We picked up sooo much trash!! Enough to flll a 24’, flatbed trailer.!!!! We removed the typical trash of cans and bottles but also lots of freeway trash such as pickup truck bedliners, tractor trailer tires including a complete dull...y and hub, fiberglass pieces of what’s left of a travel trailer. But what’s really interesting was the very old trash, some Probably from the stage coach route which included rusted cans and bottles!!! We got extremely creative in how we hauled out our trash; trash bags were stuffed inside jeeps, larger bits and pieces were strapped to the top of buggies and we used the two truck bedliners as sleds to haul out the larger items such as the tractor trailer tires! In regards to the run itself, although much slower then normal it went off without issue, well, without issue for Devils Canyon. We had the normal breakdowns of ripped brake lines, broken U joints and blown tires and of course a run on Devils Canyon wouldn’t be a run without at least one rig being gently laid on its side. We would like to give a huge shout of appreciation to the BLM, and the BLM Ranger Ernesto Tanori that helped us install our sign and carried away our trash, to the many guests that showed up to pitch in and help and to our sister Club and her members, the San Diego Four Wheelers!!! We couldn’t have done any this without all of you!!!! See more

We are delighted to be able to donate $10,000 to Friends of Oceano Dunes to support their incredible efforts to keep the dunes open to the off road community. We especially want to thank the incredible supporters of our TDS Desert Safari. Your support for our event year after year makes it possible for us to make such donations. TDS continues the fight to keep Public Lands open to everyone!

EFFECTIVE (September 14, 2020) - Thank you for your patience and continued support of California State Parks as we work to limit your risk for exposure to COVID...-19 in the outdoors. The park is open for vehicular recreation with restrictions. As a reminder, Californians are encouraged to avoid road trips and stay close to home, maintain physical distancing, wear a face covering when a physical distance of six feet from others who are not from the immediate household members cannot be maintained, and avoid congregating. Everyone has the responsibility to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Here are some additional guidelines for locals visiting Ocotillo Wells SVRA: What is open now? Trails, routes and open spaces are now open for off-highway vehicle recreation. Camping, both semi-developed disbursed, is permitted. Limited restrooms and shower facilities are available. Picnic tables and shade ramadas. The Harold Soens Youth Track and 4x4 Training Area. What is currently closed? Group camping and day use areas including the Main Street Event Facility and the Discovery Center Day-use Areas are closed. The park’s Discovery Center and Amphitheater. Some restrooms and shower buildings are not available. Special events, concessions and tours continue to be canceled until further notice. Are there any new visitor guidelines? Yes, please see below: Stay Safer at 6 Feet: Maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or more. Gatherings, picnics and parties are not allowed. Visitors will be asked to leave if there are too many people at the park to allow for the required physical distance. Stay Clean: Be prepared. Bring soap/sanitizer and pack out all trash. Restrooms will be temporarily closed in order to keep up with cleaning schedules. Stay Covered: The state now requires you to wear a face covering in most indoor settings and public outdoor spaces when you cannot maintain physical distancing of six feet or more from people outside of your immediate household. For details, please visit CDPH’s guidance here. Visitors should also abide by their local county health orders. Statewide, California State Parks continues to work with locals on a phased and regionally-driven approach to increase access to state park units where compliance with state and local public health ordinances can be achieved. Even though the department has increased access across the State Park System, the need for Californians to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the outdoors remains critical. For information on statewide current closures and available services, please visit parks.ca.gov/FlattenTheCurve.

All National Forests in California Closed as of 5:00pm this Afternoon! VALLEJO, Calif., September 9, 2020 Due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions th...roughout the state, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a temporary closure of an additional ten National Forests, meaning all eighteen National Forests in California are now closed. The closure of the additional ten forests will be effective at 5:00 pm today. These additional forests include the Eldorado National Forest, Klamath National Forest, Lassen National Forest, Mendocino National Forest, Modoc National Forest, Six Rivers National Forest, Plumas National Forest, Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, and Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. This decision will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change. We had closed eight National Forests on Monday evening, Sept. 7, 2020. Explosive growth of fires throughout California during the day and late evening of Sept. 8th led to this updated decision. The number of large fires and extreme fire behavior we are seeing across the State is historic," said Regional Forester Randy Moore. "These temporary closures are necessary to protect the public and our firefighters, and we will keep them in place until conditions improve and we are confident that National Forest visitors can recreate safely. I ask all Californians and visitors to take these closures and evacuations seriously for their own safety and to allow our firefighters to focus on the mission of safely suppressing these fires ." The Forest Service thanks our partners and the public for their cooperation and understanding of this monumental fire threat. It is critical that all Californians and national forest visitors follow these important closures and restrictions for their own safety and the safety of our firefighters. Citizens with specific questions within their area may call their local forests for more information. The Forest Service manages 18 National Forests in the Pacific Southwest Region, which encompasses over 20 million acres across California, and assists forest landowners in California, Hawaii and the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands. National forests supply 50 percent of the water in California and form the watershed of most major aqueducts and more than 2,400 reservoirs throughout the state.
