If you’ve never considered cross-country skiing before, this might be the winter you do. It’s a good way to get outside and explore local areas, and it’s naturally a crowd-free activity.

Did you know that Royal Gorge is home to the largest cross-country ski area in North America? With access to views like this and eight distinct trail systems, cross-country skiing takes you to stunning vistas that include some of the most majestic peaks in Tahoe. On top of that cross-country skiing is a perfect activity for social distancing. Make sure you review individual resort websites to know what to expect before you arrive. Photo: Chris Bartkowski

North Lake Tahoe 02.10.2020

Rather than focusing on the past, we’re looking forward to the future. A new year of opportunity sits before all of us and we’re excited for all new adventures, big and small. Goodbye, 2020, and hello 2021. Happy New Year, everyone. Be safe and be well.

When it comes to diet goals, they can wait until the new year, especially when ahi poke tacos are on the menu at The Bridgetender Tavern. Places like The Bridgetender and many more local restaurants are continuing to offer fantastic to-go options. Please continue supporting our local restaurants. Not only does this help our local economy, but the food you’ll get is out of this world.

Sledding is an incredibly popular activity during the winter season. Places like Granlibakken Tahoe, Tahoe City Parks and Recreation - TCPUD, and several more provide guests with some exciting sled runs for the whole family. Please consult with the resort you are planning to visit (or rental company) before you start on an outdoor adventure to ensure you have the right gear, clothing, and provisions needed. Many of these sledding hills are requiring visitors to make their reservations ahead of time online. Please check with the resort directly before embarking on your winter activities. Be safe and have fun!

Have you heard the news? Our friends at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows are officially open for the winter season. While they are not requiring reservations at this time, they plan to manage general visitation by temporarily eliminating the sale of walk-up tickets at the window while dynamically controlling the sale of advance purchase tickets. For more information head over to their website and social media. Visitors can also expect the following implementations to increase ph...ysical distancing and safety: New hand-sanitizing stations are being installed and bathrooms will be outfitted with hundreds of additional touchless faucets, paper towel and soap dispensers. Partitions will be installed in ticket, ski school and food and beverage sales locations. A fleet of high-demand electrostatic sanitizing sprayers will disinfect areas around the resort, with the ability to sanitize up to 23,000 square feet on one tank. Electrostatically charged disinfectant clings to multidimensional hard and soft surfaces, providing consistent and lasting disinfection. Guests can expect to find more outdoor seating than ever before, including expanded deck seating at Alpine Meadows Base Lodge, Gold Coast Lodge and KT Base Bar where hundreds of new tables, chairs, heaters, umbrellas and fire pits will be available for guests to use. Portable employee locker rooms will be placed in base areas at Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley to facilitate physical distancing for staff. See more

Give Back Tahoe is an end-of-year giving program of the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation that shines the spotlight on all that our nonprofits do to make our community such a special place to live. This year, they’ve all had to work a little harder to meet the increased demand for services, adjust to virtual operations, and find creative ways to make up for lost revenue from canceled in-person fundraisers. Go to www.GiveBackTahoe.org to choose an organization that fits your passion and help them win additional money through our challenge grants when you donate between Dec. 1-15.
