What's your favorite part of being on the Tahoe Food Hub Crew? -Interacting (safely!) with people every week in person and not on Zoom! What's your favorite product that we sell? -Is it weird if I say kale? Yes, that's weird... Shiitakes. A 5lb flat of shiitakes feels ridiculously decadent! Why do you believe local food is important? -Where do I start?? It's fresher and tastier and healthier, it supports the local economy, it's better for the environment, small farms provide habitat, and I've realized during the pandemic that having a direct line to food producers creates food security of a different kind than we typically think of. What other hobbies, interests or talents do you have? -I like to shoot things while on my skis (biathlon). Also knitting, cooking, reading sci-fi books by the fire, and trail running in summer with my dog. Thank you Lisa Atwell Holan for everything you contribute to the Tahoe Food Hub! Bio-Bags!!! These are our new Harvest Box liners! We searched high and low for a better bag to reduce our plastic consumption. There are recyclers for plastic bags but far away. And most compost facilities don’t take compostable plastic bags And at home, compostable bags end up in recycling often times where they can’t go!! So with these green beauties (some are blue) they will biodegrade in 900 days in a regular landfill. Since the onset of COVID, the Tahoe Food Hub has evolved the way we service our customers. Our online farmers market Harvest to Order has been instrumental in these changes as it makes it easy for customers to safely order and pick-up their items. Customers can purchase all items online, including our small and large Harvest Boxes, as well as add-on an assortment of local products including bread, cheese, pasta, wine and even flowers! The market opens today at 5pm - simply order and pay in advance, then choose your time for pick-up on Friday between 12-8pm. Putting in a large order?
