This should make sense and encourage us to eat cleanly. Processed Fats and Sugars Increase Muscle Pain. Researchers observed that switching the diet of mice to one rich in either highly processed sugars or fats led to increased excitability of the muscle nerves and resulting muscle pain. The findings suggest that reducing the intake of highly processed foods may benefit patients with muscle pain. This is consistent with what we see in clinical practice. Nutrients, October 2020
Cancer Screenings May Encourage a Healthier Lifestyle. An analysis of data from five published studies revealed that individuals are more receptive to lifestyle interventions on the importance of a healthy diet and exercise following a colorectal and breast cancer screening. So the take away is that putting health into the forefront of the minds of the public encourages healthy habits. That's a good thing. Cancer Causes & Control, November 2020
In our office we use Myofascial Release for Neck Pain among other physical interventions. Tightness of the suboccipital muscles at the back of the skull is often experienced by patients with chronic neck pain. A study that included 58 chronic neck pain patients found that myofascial release therapy, a form of treatment provided by doctors of chiropractic, applied to the suboccipital muscles is effective for reducing neck pain intensity and improving cervical mobility. Do you ever take the time to sit quietly without any interference from the outside invading the space inside of you? There is a place deep inside of your soul that makes up who you really are. It is always there but it is often ignored. #balancedoctor #tahoecitychiropractic

Hip Strengthening Aids in Low Back Pain Rehab. A review of data from five published studies suggests that incorporating hip strengthening exercises into a low back pain treatment program can lead to greater improvements in both low back pain and disability. This finding is not entirely surprising as past research has shown that hip/pelvic and low back issues often co-occur. Doctors of chiropractic are trained to assess and treat spine/hip conditions, often using manual manipulation, physiotherapy modalities, specific exercises, and nutritional recommendations. This is arnica mollis. It’s growing in a lot of locations in the Tahoe Basin right now but I’m seeing it mostly in higher elevations lately. It has been used for many years to ease bruising, muscle strains and joint pain.
This is feverfew growing wild in our front yard at 7000 feet elevation. The leaves of this flower have been used for years as a preventative for migraine headaches, anxiety relief and as an anti-inflammatory.
Have you ever had one of those annoying muscular knots that just won't go away. Our office sees them all the time and people are so happy when we help them say goodbye to those tight, sore, knotty lumps of sore muscles. A myofascial trigger point is a hyperirritable spot in skeletal muscle that is associated with chronic pain conditions. In a recent study from Biomed Research International, March 2020, involving 60 individuals with neck pain and trigger points in the upper trapezius muscles, researchers observed that the combination of muscle energy technique and ischemic compression was more effective at improving both neck pain and muscle tenderness than conventional treatment. We often use these and other manual therapies to treat patients with myofascial trigger points. Biomed Research International, March 2020
