In keeping with Black History Month, we will present a few of our historical figure string dolls. Our first string doll represents Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks (19132005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955. Her actions inspired the leaders of the local Black community to organize the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Led by a young Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the boycott... lasted more than a yearduring which Parks not coincidentally lost her joband ended only when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was unconstitutional. Over the next half-century, Parks became a nationally recognized symbol of dignity and strength in the struggle to end entrenched racial segregation. Such an inspirational story! New beautifully handmade Kazi baskets and end tables are here! The Kazi products are traditionally woven with naturally sourced dyed sisal fibers and sweet grass to create one of a kind pieces. Weaving creates a stable life for both men, women, and their children in East Africa - these products are specifically from Rwanda or Uganda. The process of weaving is intricate. Sisal fibers are wound around thin bundles of sweet grass, and secured stitch by stitch into a tiny ...coil. The coil grows as the process continues, and the weaver incorporates differently colored sisal threads into careful patterns or designs.
