We live in what are, in many ways, unprecedented times. Yet, in other ways, they are not unprecedented at all. Plagues are no new phenomenon: they existed in biblical times, as well as in the history of the church. This is also not the first time governments have suspended the right to free assembly due to the threat of contagion. Moreover, God is as sovereign at this time as ever. As you likely know, along with the rest of the Bay Area, Santa Clara County has instituted a fu...ll lock-down that prohibits our gatherings . While governing powers are limited in their authority to curtail the activities of the church, they do possess their divinely-granted authority for the preservation of lives. In that vein, and because of the reality of the threat itself, we will comply with this directive. Specifically, we will cancel all in-person meetings until the order is lifted. In an attempt to maintain some semblance of communal church life, we will take the following measures. - For those who would like to join a group chat, we will use Slack You can access this either from your computer, or by installing the Slack app on your phone Email Conley ([email protected]) for an invite link. After being invited, you can revisit the chat at svrbc.slack.com. - Please also use the members mailing list for social conversations during this time, especially if you are unable to join Slack. - If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact the pastors. - Consider signing up for online giving. - Please call each other frequently. Remember that those who live alone will be especially lonely during this time. - Please call either of the pastors if you need special help, or just want to talk.
