#SonomaStrong Some fire departments refer to forcible entry skills as the keys to the city in a tribute to the importance of making quick access to a secured occupancy when fighting a structure fire. Saving seconds with skills such as these can make all the difference when the mission is rescuing lives. Thanks to the support of the Sonoma Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association, SVFD fire crews are regularly practicing and perfecting forcible entry with our new Woods Forc...ible Entry prop, which is an added addition to our training tower. Seen here, Fire Captain Loftus, Fire Apparatus Engineer Gillmore, and Firefighter Paramedic Branconi put SVFD Firefighters Molesworth and Sweet through the paces with our new training door. Special thanks to the Volunteer Association and Sonoma Door and Sash for supporting this invaluable training tool. #traineveryday #SonomaValleyFD See more

Late last night Sonoma Valley Fire District responded to a working 2 story duplex fire on Arnold Drive. In a coordinated multi-agency response, SVFD crews contained the fire to the bottom story of the duplex, alongside crews from both Eldridge Fire and Kenwood Fire District. One occupant was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with fire related injuries. Sonoma Valley Fire works in unison with neighboring agencies to mitigate emergencies throughout Sonoma Valley, and we are grateful for the hard work our adjoining fire service family contribute to our community. #SonomaStrong #SonomaValleyFD

Sonoma Valley Fire District’s commitment to training continues every shift, even as we hold strong during the fight against Covid. As the rains fell, our crews reviewed essential rescue topics such as swift water rescue and structure fire interior search techniques. Pictured here is our Agua Caliente crew practicing buddy breathing and interior search while having their vision blacked out by cloth shrouds. Safely continuing our daily mission and rising to meet new needs is how we remain #sonomastrong #maskUP #SonomaValleyFD

Sonoma Valley Fire District is providing support to our neighbor’s across California who are feeling the strain of the current Coronavirus surge. Two of our Paramedics have deployed with a coordinated effort by the Office of Emergency Services to provide medical assistance and care in areas where Covid is taxing our health care heroes. Along with working these extra shifts in hospitals, several of our Paramedics are supporting vaccination efforts across the County. As our department fills these unprecedented needs during the pandemic , Sonoma Valley Fire district humbly asks that we all do our part at home to care for each other during this surge. By sheltering in place, wearing a mask, and social distancing we can all take courageous steps that save lives. We are all #sonomastrong even though we may be six feet apart. #SonomaValleyFD

Sonoma Valley Fire Districts Un-manned Aerial System (drone) program is taking off in 2021. The addition of this technology, flown by our certified pilots, can be deployed to incidents such as structure fires, HazMat incidents, search and rescue events, and in urban disaster response. One place you will NOT see our drones flying however are on Wildland fire incidents. The safety of the Golden States critically important aerial firefighting fleet and CalFire Air Attack would b...e compromised by the use of UAS on Wildland fire incidents, so please keep your own drones safely grounded during wildfire season. Our air tankers are our Wildland eyes in the sky and if you fly, they can’t. Stay updated on Sonoma Valley FD’s new UAS program and other new programs we will be introducing in 2021 by following us on IG and on our Facebook page. #sonomastrong #SonomaValleyFD See more

As vaccinations of front-line first responders continue across Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley Fire District Fire Chief Akre and Battalion Chief Norrbom received the first of the two series Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine this week. Sonoma Valley Fire Captain Cyr was among the group of multi-agency First Responders who are helping to deliver (and also receive) the FDA approved vaccine to peer firefighters and healthcare providers. Sonoma Valley Fire Chief Steve Akre, a long time fire s...ervice Veteran stated, I am most grateful to have the opportunity to get a COVID vaccine today. A sign of hope for all of us to get back to normal soon. Sonoma County EMS and Fire Agencies such as Sonoma Life Support, Santa Rosa Fire Department, Bodega Bay Fire, Petaluma Fire Department, and Sonoma Valley FD have joined together in this coordinated effort to deliver the vaccine safely and efficiently. Just as agencies have joined together to respond to fires in and around the Golden State they have again combined resources and personnel to continue the fight against Covid-19 within our County. #vaccinateSoCo #SonomaStrong #maskUP

This morning Sonoma Valley Fire District EMT’s and Paramedics, who are front line medical workers on our engines and ambulances, joined in a united County wide vaccine effort to administer the two phase FDA approved Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to fellow first responders across Sonoma County. Firefighter/EMT Carlos Ortiz and Fire Captain/Paramedic Ted Hassler were among the first of health care providers across the county to receive their initial dose of the vaccine in this histor...ic step to beat Covid-19. After receiving the vaccine, all of the County’s first responders will return in 21 days for an essential booster dose. In addition to workers and residents of long term health care facilities, health care workers are among the recommended tier for early vaccination due to their critical delivery of Emergency Medical care. #VaccinateSoCo #SonomaStrong See more

Sonoma Valley Fire District could not be more proud of our recent Santa Rosa Junior College Fire Academy graduates. SVFD volunteer firefighters (from left to right) Ernesto Mora, Matthew Norrbom, Gavin Koler, and Alexander Molesworth tackled the challenge of this rigorous academy in the midst of Covid-19. Each of them stood tall completing this daunting goal with complete determination while confronting a pandemic. Two of these young volunteers are humbly following in a parents footsteps, while two are forging their own new path in the fire service ranks. Congratulations to each of our cadets on your historic achievement... and don’t forget that you, too, can join Sonoma Valley FD’s volunteer ranks this month by checking our website at SVFRA.org #SonomaStrong Congratulations to the entire Santa Rosa Junior College Fire Academy Class 98!

Sonoma Valley Fire District is proud to be staffed and supported by a long history of volunteer fire fighters. There was no better time to honor our volunteer staff than during last weeks Red Flag event. The Volunteer Fire Foundation showed their gratitude and support by donating much appreciated crates filled with comfort and necessity supplies to our Glen Ellen Firehouse. Thank you to @volunteerfirefoundation for your selfless support and generousity. #SonomaStrong #SVFireDistrict #sonomavalleyfd

Along with wishes of Merry Holidays, Sonoma Valley Fire District wants you to pause for a Safety Survey when using Holiday decorations this Season. If you celebrate the Holidays with candles, keep open flame away from flammable objects and out of the reach of kids or pets. Be sure to blow out candles prior to going to sleep. If you celebrate this season with a tree, be sure to keep it watered. Locate your tree 3 feet from heat sources, and be sure to turn off all holiday lights before going to bed. Juntos somos #sonomastrong #SonomaValleyFD

In preparation for tonight’s forecast Wind Event and Red Flag warning, Sonoma Valley Fire District has up-staffed personnel and equipment. We have added 2 Water Tenders and 2 additional engines for tonight’s critical conditions, and are actively working with neighboring agencies to coordinate mutual aid as needed. Strike Teams of engines and a Task Force comprised of a variety of equipment are prepositioned across Sonoma County. Remember that the most common hazard expected tonight are power lines down and tree limbs down. The damage these incidents can create are serious. Even in the event of a power shut off, assume all utility lines are energized and do not attempt to handle them. SVFD is here and ready to respond. #sonomastrong #SonomaValleyFD

Although we have enjoyed a couple days of seasonal weather, forecasters are saying tonight’s wind event models similarly to the 2017 event which led to the Nuns and Tubbs fires in Sonoma County. Today is the perfect time to coordinate your family evacuation plan. Prepare your PETS, pack your PRESCRIPTIONS, gather your PAPERWORK, and carry Covid 19 PRECAUTIONS such as a mask/sanitizer/gloves. The safest place to park is on either side of the building in our parking lots located to the North and South of the Fire Station. Please do not park anywhere in front of the Engine Bay doors or on the station apron. Once parked, voters can walk over and deposit your ballot safely in the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters box. High winds with gusts over 30 miles per hour are creating hazardous conditions on our upper Sonoma Valley Slopes and Ridge-tops. Over night SVFD Engine companies responded to reports of downed trees, such as these large trees that Engine 3383 helped mitigate with the assistance of Sonoma County Public Works and Pacific Gas and Electric crews. Thank you to our community for remaining vigilant and maintaining awareness during this critical weather period. #SonomaStrong

This afternoon Sonoma Valley Fire District welcomed Mayacamas Station 8’s brand new Type 6 Fire Engine. This Engine was designed considering its mountain destination first and foremost, with the body and cab mounted on a sleek and shorter frame that will squeeze onto tight roads and driveways. Built with a 1500 gallon per minute pump, E3358 is capable of delivering plenty of water when needed. Engine 3358 was purchased with funds raised and donated by the Mayacamas Fire District and Sonoma Valley Fire District Board of Directors. Community members make the acquisition of engines specifically designed for tactics in our home turf possible. Thank you to everyone who helped make Engine 3358 a reality. #SonomaStrong #SonomaValleyFD
