He has gone on to be a nationally recognized leader in challenging the oppression nexus of the criminal court and immigration systems. Hear why he says #NoonProp25 and why risk assessments will only lead incarceration with no way out for many. >>> C...arlie Ware fights for pretrial justice everyday in the courts, and her read is that #Prop25 gives too much power to police, prosecutors, and judges to incarcerate people. She says, What I don’t like about Prop 25 is it mixes that methods so it used a social science picture frame to put around the same thing judges and prosecutors are already doing to take control someone’s liberty. To me this is worse to say data driven science when you are doing the same thing you are doing now. This will expand how people people can be preventatively detained. Lourdes Best, an organizer with San Mateo Participatory Defense has seen how SB10 will play out, as their county was giving millions to pilot risk assessments and probation led pretrial services. All she saw as a gang of new probation officers and the money isn’t being used to help people, its being used to keep people down. As for risk assessments she says, They are racist, biased, and definitely something we should not be using. Vote #NoonProp25!!! San Mateo County is still transferring community members who have earned their release over to ICE detention centers, which are sites of rampant medical neglect and abuse even before the pandemic. Any collaboration with ICE is cruel because immigrants are getting severely sick and dying in ICE facilities.
