On Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, the board of trustees unanimously approved an SRJC Land Acknowledgement, acknowledging that that #SRJC sits on the territorial land o...f the Pomo People, past and present, and honors with gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. This land acknowledgment calls us to commit to continuing to learn how to be better stewards of the land we inhabit. We recognize that every member of the Santa Rosa Junior College community has benefitted, and continues to benefit, from the use and occupation of this land since the institution’s founding in 1918. Consistent with our values of community and diversity, we have a responsibility to acknowledge and make visible the colleges’ relationship to Native peoples. By offering this Land Acknowledgement, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty and will work to hold Santa Rosa Junior College more accountable to the needs of American Indian and Indigenous peoples. Congratulations Chris Brokate of Clean River Alliance for winning The North Bay Spirit Award! Over the past 5 years, Chris has worked tirelessly to keep trash o...ut of the Russian River and its tributaries. We have enjoyed collaborating with him on Laguna trash cleanups as his smile and enthusiasm for talking trash inspires everyone he works with. Where does your Sonoma County recycling go? To the Standish Ave "MRF" in South Santa Rosa. I get a LOT of questions about this place and have toured it. Recology does an excellent job with our materials. Regarding the sorting employees...it is VERY loud, very hot (or cold), and very fast. To show respect for them, always separate your materials, clean gooey stuff, and don't put in trash such as plastic bags. ... Please share, tag your friends who LOVE recycling, and comment with questions.
