Please be advised the Valley continues to experience significant smoke impacts from multiple wildfires occurring across the state and anticipates unhealthy air quality to affect the Valley through the week and into the weekend. The District warns residents to stay indoors if possible. We have reissued a health caution statement, which will remain in place until the fires are extinguished. While we know many of you are conducting distance learning, we still wanted to provide y...ou with this info as you may want to share it with your students and their families. Anyone experiencing poor air quality due to wildfire smoke should move indoors, to a filtered, air-conditioned environment with windows closed. The common cloth and paper masks being worn due to COVID-19 concerns will not protect individuals from wildfire smoke. Also, please note that the District’s air monitors (RAAN) are designed to detect the microscopic PM2.5 particles that exist in smoke. Ash pieces, however, are much larger in size and will not be detected. If an area is impacted by smoke and ash fall, air quality should be considered unhealthy (RAAN Level 4 or higher) even if the monitor reflects a lower reading. Ways to stay informed: Visit www.valleyair.org/wildfires for info about current and recently past wildfires affecting the Valley Download the free Valley Air app on a mobile device and type in your address to see air quality levels in your area Register at myRAAN.com to get email/text notification when air quality is poor for your saved locations Valley Air District - Healthy Air Living Schools Program
