Surfers Unite Rotarian Fellowship

On Sunday night, June 7th @switchfoot played the first concert event in California since the COVID pandemic literally brought the entire globe to a halt. Known for their absolute positive lyrics as an alternative rock band these guys are more than just Grammy Award Winning artists who have traveled the world for over 20 years playing clubs to massive music festivals. These guys are friends, husbands, fathers, surfers and yes they all live here in San Diego. In fact our fou...nder has known lead singer @jonforeman and bass guitarist @timforeman since ‘89 and the Foreman brothers are fellow Alumni of San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas (former SDHS). Together 250 vehicles packed with hundreds of concert goers showed up to the Drive-In series event at @petcopark and thanks to all the sponsors, the @padres local stations like @91xsandiego more than $50k was raised for @feedingsandiego . . Great see other local bands too. Sunday night was a perfect message of hope, unity and love as Jon put in perspective the last two weeks that have literally rocked our nation to the core. From Hello Hurricane to The Sound which made us all honk our horns there were also tender moments of reflection...words which touched our soul from John Perkins and a stark reminder that We Are One. Justice For All is what we all strive for and that will come from us loving one another through our actions and our words. Since COVID our Rotary Club of over 90 members has been mostly meeting weekly on ZOOM with no socials and only a handful of service projects. Sure we’ve funded certain programs, supported Feeding San Diego and the VANC feeding Veteran families. Look forward to doing more of that and some environmental clean up projects too. Today over a dozen of us members along with significant others and friends carefully executed a fun Road Rally that was truly unique. Some of us drov...e our own cars vs. carpooling, very few stayed overnight in Temecula but I’ll tell you...just sitting in our beach chairs in a park laughing and telling stories, reviewing riddles and silly answers along our journey was absolutely priceless. A number of us had our End Polio Now gear on for #worldpolioday2020 but just to see some of these friends we care so much about was totally awesome! Thankful for great friends in our San Diego surf community like @sjamesphoto who captured this pic of @alyssa_spencer1 from the pier during this year’s @supergirlpro Any off the lip comes down to timing and body position and what this photo shows from this angle is exactly how getting the board vertical out of the water while her shoulders and hips drive the board. So important is that saying, where the head goes the body will follow and the way Alyssa executes it is like poetry in motion. Would be really fun is to watch a sequence shot of it. Shredder!
