Dancing on water - Shane has been surfing for physical therapy for about 2 months now and LOVES it! - While dancing on waves together is fun, importantly, we are also working toward functional goals. Shane has difficulty walking and we practice gait training over the sand, rocks and on the surf board. We also work on the range of motion in his legs, strength and stability, motor planning, and foot contact during functional movements of quadruped, tall kneeling, standing and t...ransitioning to stand through half kneeling both in flat water and while riding the waves. Student spotlight - Makenna is a kinesiology student who recently completed an internship at Surf and Turf Therapy. She spent over 90 hours this fall leading horses, side-walking, prepping for treatment, and helping around the barn to name just a few of the things she did! She even got to feel first hand how hippotherapy works for our patients during a ride-along. - Makenna was such a joy to have with us. You would never know she had limited horse experience. She learned s...o quickly and took initiative to learn new equine skills. Before I could even get out of the office she had kids hands sanitized, temperatures taken and helmets on! Winter Surf Stoke - This time of year everyone always asks when do you stop the surf side? The answer is we don’t! Winter surf sessions are some of my favorite because we don’t have to worry about the crowds and usually the waves are perfect, mellow waves for us to do our therapy! - With the amazing wetsuit technology today and a little bit of sunshine we are able to stay warm and surf year round! What a night! - Thanks to the generosity of our community, our first annual Movie with a Mission was a huge success!
