Surf City Pediatrics is proud to welcome Dr. Rachel Watson to our team! She has started working full-time this month to help take care of the medical needs of our patients. She is board certified and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Watson was trained at the University of California/Children's Hospital of Orange County joint residency program after graduating from the University of Nebraska Medical Center medical school. She enjoys traveling, reading, and yoga during her free time. We believe Dr. Watson to be an exceptional addition to our team and that our families will enjoy meeting her. Welcome Dr. Watson to our Surf City Pediatrics family!

With flu season approaching it is more important than ever for your child to receive the flu vaccine. To help with social distancing and for your convenience we have instituted a one-way walk- thru flu clinic in our office by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Our first one will be held on August 29 SATURDAY. ... More dates will be posted soon. We encourage maintaining social distancing, frequent hand washing, and good sleep and nutrition to help you ans your child/children stay healthy!

We are hoping and wishing for all of our patients and families are staying safe during this pandemic. Having your child/children stay well also includes NOT delaying their physicals and checkups, including vaccinations. We have taken special precautions to keep our office safe, as well as scheduling well check-ups and other urgent non-sick appointments in the morning, and ill/sick kids in the afternoon. The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused a lot of confusion, anxiety, and uncertainty in many of us, most of all our children. They are being told that schools, playgrounds, and museums are closed, and that they are not allowed to see their friends in person. It must be so difficult for them to understand all of this, all due to a tiny virus that they cannot see! Our very own Lacey Carpenter, PA-C, discusses how to talk to our kids about the virus and keep them engaged, suggesting ways to pass the time and keeping them physically and mentally healthy. With SURF CITY PEDIATRICS now being able to perform Telemedicine, we wanted to post some specific medical conditions that we feel are appropriate and convenient for the use of Telemedicine in lieu of an in-office visit. 1. All fever with respiratory symptoms will be triaged initially by phone. Depending on severity, a Telemedicine appointment with one of our providers to screen for possible COVID-19 symptoms will be provided. 2. Developmental questions (such as feeding..., sleeping, developmental concerns) 3. Behavioral/Mental Health/Learning Difficulties 4. Dietary counseling 5. Acne 6. Medical refills/med checks (ADHD, acne, asthma) 7. Laboratory results/counseling 8. Minor colds and some rashes, such as eczema 9. Brief vomiting and/or diarrhea symptoms 10. Constipation management 11. ANY OTHER parental concerns/counseling Note: Telemedicine is a billable service subject to co-pays and/or deductibles due at time of service. Please be aware that Surf City Pediatrics, as well the American Academy of Pediatrics, strongly recommends that ALL CHILDREN CONTINUE THEIR WELL-CHILD PHYSICALS AND NOT HAVE THEIR VACCINATIONS DELAYED. This is especially true for infants and toddlers. To remind everyone, we are conducting well-child check-ups and non-contagious conditions (such as injuries, rechecks, behavior consults) in the mornings, and sick urgent appointments in the afternoon. Certain medical conditions may qualify for this technology for us to use in order to provide medical care in this manner. Patients in need of medical attention, such as those with fever and cough, may be asked to use ZOOM in order for us for us to assess their medical status and advise accordingly.
