WHO’S SERVING YOU? Please join us in congratulating Port Hueneme Police Officer Kimberly Mora who recently graduated from the Ventura County Sheriffs’ Police Ac...ademy on Thursday, April 2nd. Kimberly is the first Port Hueneme Police Officer to graduate from the police academy in over 20 years. We are very proud of her accomplishment as she completed an intense 24-week police academy which saw over 20 recruits dropout during this past session. Kimberly was born in Oxnard and is one of five children. She attended Williams Elementary School, Blackstock Junior High and would ultimately graduate from Channel Islands High School in 2014. Kimberly put herself through college by working two jobs where she would graduate with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Ventura College and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with Honors from Long Beach State. While in the Police Academy, she gained additional credits and obtained three additional Associate Degrees. After completing her police field training program, she would like to return to college to earn her Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Kimberly is also fluent in Spanish. Kimberly found her love for law enforcement in 2015 when she became a Police Explorer for the Oxnard Police Department. She has vowed to pay it forward by becoming a Police Explorer Advisor after she has completed her 6-month field training program. While our current situation is preventing a formalized swearing-in ceremony with family and friends, we will assuredly let everyone know when this happens. In the meantime, if you see Kimberly working with her field training officer, don’t hesitate to wave and say hi from six feet of course.

Effective July 22, 2020 anyone visiting the Hueneme Pier must wear a face covering. Face coverings are mandatory when: walking, riding your bike, exercising, s...ightseeing, fishing, or for any other purpose you may have out on the pier. Signage will be installed at the entrance to the pier, by the lifeguard tower, an at the end of the pier to help remind you of the new mandate, and to also explain the other rules while using the pier which include social distancing, and handwashing. This mandate is a direct result of the dramatic increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in our city. We want everyone to enjoy the pier and we hope to keep it open. However, health safety of our citizens is our number one priority. If masks are not worn, and social distancing between fishermen and users of the pier are ignored, we will have no other option but to close it until further notice. We want to empower each of you to do your part. We can reduce the numbers of positive cases and keep all that we enjoy here in Hueneme open but it will take effort and compliance from everyone. Wear a face covering, enjoy the pier, and stay safe and healthy Hueneme.

CITY OF PORT HUENEME COVID-19 UPDATE: HUENEME BEACH WILL BE CLOSED FROM JULY 3 JULY 5. Based on a decision from the City of Port Hueneme Civil Defense and Dis...aster Council and in conjunction with the most recent Public Health Orders and recommendations issued by Public Health Director Robert Levin, we are closing Hueneme Beach from 5:00 a.m. on July 3 to 5:00 a.m. on July 6 to prevent crowding and congestion that often results in the spread of COVID-19. This includes the waterfront, sand, and pier. There will be no activity on the beach during this time. This also includes Hueneme Beach Park. Public Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin stated, COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to increase in Ventura County and throughout the State. It’s important that people do not gather to prevent further spread. Public Health Director Rigo Vargas also reminded us: We know people are eager to go out, but we need to remind you on the importance of being safe and protecting yourself and others. Please only gather with the people that you live with. Your actions can help save lives." The closure of other beaches across Ventura County, LA County, and Santa Barbara County will only cause a greater surge of beach-goers this holiday weekend at Hueneme Beach. Barricades, cones, and signs will be resurrected around the beach during these three days. We are asking for everyone's voluntary compliance and do not want to be taking enforcement action in this already difficult time. Port Hueneme Lifeguards and Port Hueneme Police will be patrolling the beaches this weekend. Please continue to follow social distancing guidelines and mask orders from the California Department of Public Health. The Public Walking paths will remain open for walking, running, and bicycling. Surfside Seafood restaurant at the beach will remain open for takeout and dine-in service between the hours of 11 and 7. Parking Lots B and C will be closed. A section of parking Lot A will be open for restaurant customers. Parking Lot E will remain open. For further updates, please visit our website at www.PortHuenemeEmergency.org
