After three decades of service and thousands and thousands of 911 calls, Public Safety Communications Manager Michael Spath is hanging up his headset and diving into retirement! He’ll be working his final shift today. Michael joined our department in July 2000 as a lateral dispatcher from San Jose Police Communications where he had worked for more than nine years. He promoted to the rank of Public Safety Senior Dispatcher in July 2001. In January 2012, Michael was appointed t...o Dispatch Coordinator and was later promoted to his current rank of Communications Manager in December 2013. During his over twenty-year tenure with our department, Michael has been instrumental in multiple Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system upgrades, 911 Telephone System replacements, the implementation of the digital radio system and Emergency Fire Dispatch protocols, and the formation of our department's partnership with Crisis Text Line.
