Suisun-Fairfield Congregational United Church Sunday October 18th, 2020 Welcome Call to Worship One: Lord, we are tired All: Support us with your boundless strength... One: Lord, we are frightened All: Hold us in your steadfast love One: Lord, when will this ordeal end? All: Soothe us with your infinite patience One: Lord, we don’t know if we can keep going All: Strengthen us with your grace One: Lord, what should we do? All: Make us instruments of your will Amen Opening Prayer: Holy One, we live in frightening times. We live in the shadow an invisible killer. We live in a time of division, contempt, and hatred. We live in a time in which we can’t even agree on basic facts. This year has already been harder than any of us could have predicted, and it’s not getting better. We find our rest in you. We find our protection in you. We find our strength in your love. We feel your hand on our backs, steadying us as we falter. We pray for the strength to do your work, for the strength to bring your kingdom. Amen Words of Assurance Hymn 553: There Is a Balm in Gilead Psalm 96:1-9 Pastoral Prayer The Lord’s Prayer: Our God, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Hymn 439: A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Lessons from Scripture First Thessalonians 1:1-10 Message: Keep Going Benediction Shalom

Good Morning Suisun-Fairfield... Here are the complete list of reading for this week... Revised Common Lectionary: Exodus 17:1-7 and Psalm 78:1-4, 12-16; Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32 and Psalm 25:1-9; Philippians 2:1-13; Matthew 21:23-32 This week we have the people of Israel complaining once again to Moses; they argued that Moses brought them out of Egypt to die in the wilderness, but Moses reminded them it was God who brought them out,so why are they questioning God and putting G...od to the test? The psalmist begins Psalm 78 calling the people to listen, for God is speaking. What God did for the people in the past must be told to a new generation. Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32 focuses on the point that all individuals are important and belong to God. The people complained that God’s ways are unfair, but God points it back to them, that their ways of evil and sin are unfair. God called upon the people to transform their heart and lives Paul instructed the church in Philippi to be of the same mind; Paul hoped the Philippians would show concern for the needs of each other and not for their own selfish gain. Jesus was questioned by the elders and leaders at the temple in Matthew 21:23-32. They wanted to know by what authority he was teaching and performing miracles, and who gave him that authority? I was led to post the readings so that by Sunday we would have all had a chance to see how all of these scriptures reflect something about the times we are currently living in..what do these scriptures show us; what can we glean to help us move through the troubling waters of life today? The sermon will be preached from the Ezekiel text: Ezekiel 18:1-4,25-32. Sermon title: NO MORE EXCUSES See more
