Edgar Schein provides keen insight on the often painful process of defining and imbedding culture in any orgaization
A bit dated but the content remains relevant in today's marketplace.
Q2 pulse summary from NFIB. While generally not encouraging, a couple of counterintuitive nuggets to consider: (i) where your business can clearly demonstrate value add, pursue price increases; (ii) if your business could benefit from productivity improving capital equipment, pursue investment with vigor and negotiate hard; and (iii) wage pressure and shrinking pool of qualified candidates increase importance and challenge to retain your best people. Look at your training investments, benefits, etc.
Encourage you to read twice - once at your normal pace and a 2nd time a bit slower. There are some profound, subtle truths included in my view which are worth digesting and then applying to your business. The riff on Excel in paragraph #1 is classic.
California incorporated businesses should explore the merits of applying for growth funding state tax credits available through the Governor's Go-BIZ California Competes Tax Credit initiative. https://lnkd.in/bVRiRTr There are a number of resources at the Go-BIZ website to explain the credit calculation and application process. The current application period ends on August 22, 2016. $75M of credit is available for issuance. And so it begins..... June 26, 2016 Welcome to the Stratise blog! Assuming we are successful, you'll find this blog rich with provocative reflections about business, life, faith and their integration. We'll also share topical posts originated by others which add value to our typical client.... Intention is a powerful word used too often used in a negative context - "I intended to do X, but.....". Intention is a mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action or actions in the future. Intention involves mental activities such as planning and forethought. I learned the power of intention through lifelong struggle with weight loss. I would lose substantial weight, then gain it back in surplus - a familiar refrain for the morbidly obese. I did not apply intention to my problem - I simply tried to overcome the problem with effort. Approximately 18 months ago, I committed to weight loss with intention by developing a plan which could not fail. Once again, I committed to behavioral change to lose weight - but in parallel pursued education on bariatric surgery. If behavioral change proved ineffective once again, I committed to proceed with surgery. Approximately six months into the program, I hit the wall on behavioral change (and learned there were physiological root causes for this outcome). With intention, I proceeded to schedule and prepare for surgery. Today I find myself 144 lbs. lower in weight and far healthier as a result. With more weight to lose to reach my goal, I am resolved to continue my journey with intention. Intention is different than "focus" or "priority". Intention is purposeful action to fulfill a commitment. When intention is applied to a problem, the risk of failure or distraction is nominal because of effort applied to planning and execution. When you prepare your next To Do list, select one item you hope to complete today and apply the power of intention. Practice intention on simple tasks until you are confident in your ability to execute. Then apply the power of intention to your professional and personal life with vigor. You'll reach seemingly unattainable goals with energy and enthusiasm!
