REMEMBERING 9/11/2001 2,823 people killed 343 FDNY firefighters killed 70 police officers killed... 1,102 victims identified 1.8 million tons of debris removed (108,342 truckloads) 3.1 million hours of labor spent on cleanup The grim toll includes close to 200 FDNY responders who have died from WTC-linked illnesses, many of them from cancer. Research has found thyroid, colon, prostate and blood cancers more prevalent among FDNY members who served at Ground Zero than those who did not. More than 7,000 FDNY Firefighters and EMTs have been treated for a 9/11 injury or illness now almost 19 years later. 5,400 members have been diagnosed with lower respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and less commonly emphysema, COPD, sarcoidosis or pulmonary fibrosis. 5,200 members have been diagnosed with upper respiratory diseases such as chronic rhinosinusitis and/or vocal cord diseases. 3,700 members have been diagnosed with mental health stress-related conditions. 5,400 members have been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disorders. 1,100 have developed cancer caused by 9/11 toxins. Our gratitude goes out to those and their families who answered the call and were part of the recovery efforts and the greatest rescue ever made! #NeverForget

On this day... 19 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. #NeverForget

Please Join the SRP Family this Sunday as we continue to pray for all the victims in Beirut, their families, and the city at large during this difficult time. We deeply express our condolences, solidarity and sympathy to all. We are truly thankful and grateful to our international disaster response partners, our USAR members and their SAR Dogs, the drone teams, structural engineers, the local crane operators, and all the people volunteering as they work through the rubble on these difficult rescue missions. May the international community come together in building a better life, a safer community and a more resilient city. Please find a way to support the recovery efforts and make your presence known.
