This needs to be said.

This hits home right now. Finding a balance where we hold to our values in all aspects of parenting...well, it's exhausting that's what. Send a little love to yourself for being imperfectly human. I will too.

I'm loving this poem today.

These are great tips for all kids (and parents). I'm definitely going to try some of these at home with my daughter and me.

Another conversation to keep having with your kids. (Start early for best results!)

This absolutely resonates with what I have seen in my work with teens. Parents, I urge you to set limits around screen time, especially phones. You cannot start too early, and if you try imposing limitations on teens who have not had limits before, well ... It doesn't work. Kids need our help with this. Many adults need help with self-control and screens/phones too. You may need to do your own work around this if you want to model good boundaries for your kids. I find it challenging too, and have made a daily practice of mindful phone/screen use. It needs to be a daily practice, cuz phones (apps, social media) are designed to suck you in.

Parents tend to think we should wait to talk to kids about race. Turns out, we can't start early enough. There are great resources in this graphic.

This is such a good read about finding a therapist who can deeply relate to and mirror our experience. It also demonstrates the burden born by marginalized groups that are not born by those who aren't in those groups.

So much this. Our kids don't need us to be perfect. They need us to show them how to handle adversity and come back from mistakes by pulling back the curtain on our own struggles a bit.

This is a wonderful guide for kids to start integrating mindfulness into their lives. Imagine if our kids knew how to be really present and didn't have to re-learn this as adults!

I really appreciate this thoughtful piece.
