Happy Feast of Pope St. John Paul II! (1920-2005) At the time of his election, JPII was the first non-Italian Pope in 455 years. He had the third-longest pontificate in church history at 26 years. He presided over his installation Mass as Pope on this day in 1978, sharing his famous directive, "Be not afraid!" His impact on Catholicism and the world was solidified when he was canonized a Saint in 2014. JPII, we love you!

Have you heard the inspiring story of a 15-year-old Millennial who died in 2006 and was Beatified by Pope Francis this weekend? Check out the story below.
Happy Feast Day of Pope St. John XXIII! Young Angelo Roncalli entered seminary at the age of 12, and, after serving briefly in the Italian Army, was ordained a priest in 1904. He taught apologetics and church history before serving as a military chaplain during World War I. He later served in Rome on various diplomatic assignments, rising in rank as bishop and then cardinal-patriarch of Venice. An obscure pick for the Pope, he was unexpectedly elected at age 76. He took the n...ame John which had not been used in over 500 years. His papacy was expected to be uneventful one, but to everyone’s surprise he called the Second Vatican Council. He presided over its first session but did not live to see its completion. He served as pope for less than five years before dying of stomach cancer in 1963. As Holy Father he had special concern for the equal dignity of humanity, the unity of all Christians, and world peace. He was canonized by Pope Francis at the same time as Pope John Paul II in 2014. His feast day is commemorated not on the anniversary of his death, as is usual, but on the anniversary of his opening of the Second Vatican Council, which took place 58 years ago today. See more

On this day in 1571 crew members on more than 200 ships prayed the Rosary in preparation for battle. They were a military alliance from Genoa, Spain, and the Papal States called the Holy League and were defending Christian civilization against Turkish invasion. The fleet sailed to confront the Turks near the west coast of Greece. All but 13 of the 300 Turkish ships were captured or sunk and Pope Pius V instituted the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary in honor of the resounding victory. We remember the power of the rosary and honor Our Lady today; October is also the month of the rosary. We invite all our parishioners to pray the rosary, or at least a decade of the rosary, every day this month. Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!
