Still Life Ceramics 10.05.2022

I was about to write a caption about how I miss the old Instagram where I could just hold a piece of pottery against a wall and get a bunch of likes and comments, but then I checked out feed and noticed that all the recent posts I’ve made have been me holding some pottery against a wall so I guess I haven’t changed at all - at least in that regard. Instagram is a fickle friend for sure, engagement isn’t what it used to be, but I’ll keep posting things I’m proud of making being held up with my chipped nails . PS. Is anyone else as obsessed with this glaze as I am??

Flash Sale starts again today at noon. Find some cute bud vase stocking stuffers, shipping is included! Curious: how many of you all even do stockings? These end up being great size (and priced) coworker gifts in my opinion... #hategiftshopping but #lovetheseason

Imagining for a moment what our world will look like after 2020, after the elections, after the pandemic. I imagine we will be more understanding and compassionate. We will be ready to fight against racism and intolerance of all kinds. We will be willing to do more for our friends, family, community, do more to ensure the health and care of everyone around us. And we’ll be able to shake hands again, hug and kiss our hellos the way the French do - even if we have never said hello that way before! There will be parties, festivals, concerts, meals, travel... What do you think? Naive? Maybe. Hopeful? Always. Working toward something better? 100%

Restaurant dining has been a big part of our business as well as our personal life. One of the advantages of living in a large city is the daily access to incredible food served in fun environments - and opening in downtown Los Angeles meant that we could walk to many of our favorite places. Eating out, meeting friends, family, colleagues in restaurants was woven into our daily urban lives. Chefs, restauranteurs and bar owners we not just our clients but close personal friends as well. We miss them. Industry giant @dhmeyer stated that restaurant dining will not return until there is a vaccine. I can’t wait till the day that we can celebrate the end of this virus, in restaurants bars, clubs - surrounded by old friends and new. #restaurantlife

It’s probably been 3 months since I have set the table for more than two people...most of the time we are eating out of take out containers. So sick of collecting all this plastic! Somehow need to find a way to help support of favorite local restaurants, try not to order so much that our bins fill with plastic containers every week, and maybe get back to cooking and using our bowls and plates again! Any ideas? Please share... Hard to find the energy for everything, but adding this to the to-do list and let’s see how it goes. #tableware #tablesetting #notosingleuseplastic

@ladesignfestival continues today! In years past we wouldn’t have been able to take this photo seeing lots of design enthusiast walking up and down @rowdtla checking out the installations by LA designers, artists and architects. The festive atmosphere isn’t here, but the work is just as brilliant and available to see virtually today on their website. Check out stories later today for a walkthrough of this years window installations.

Check out @ladesignfestival for a list of today’s activities. Every year we look forward to this celebration of creativity and seeing what LA designers have been up to- we dress up our studio and display our favorite pieces. This year the focus of the festival is on Design for the Future... and let’s face it, the present isn’t that great, so why not spend this day surrounded by optimistic, curious, purposeful and beautiful design.

More often then not there isn’t any cheese on our ‘cheese plate’ - it ends up being whatever little bits and pieces of leftover food and fruits that I arrange on large slab with various bowls. The fun is the arranging everything on the large ceramic slab! Even more fun is making your own which is why we are so excited to be hosting slab workshop with @lizceramics this week. There is still time to sign up and enjoy making a plate- we can’t wait to see how they turn out!

There have always days when everything feels broken, but lately there have been more of those days. Turning to friends, family, Netflix, making, music, books, baking, long walks, podcasts, Zoom dates, alone time, workouts, wine - whatever it takes to get through it. We are feeling it all right now, and thankfully we are aware it’s not a permanent state... Though this orange sky and smoke filled air suggests it won’t be over anytime soon. #dowhatyoucan #hanginthere
