During these tense last days of the presidential election, be on guard against your anger. Take to heart the words of St. John Cassian, "No matter what provokes it, anger blinds the soul’s eyes, preventing it from seeing the Sun of Righteousness. Be careful we are not blinded by our passions when we angrily turn on our neighbor and friend (or former friend) who holds a different political view than ourselves. We may disagree with them. We may not understand them. We may think they are completely wrong. Despite all this, we are called to love them and treat them the way we want to be treated. Regardless of what they do or how they react to us, we are called to follow our faith and witness the spirit of peace and grace and love toward others.

We pray everyday Your Will Be Done. Are we sincere when we pray this in the Lord’s Prayer? Do we really want to follow the Lord’s will? And how do we know what His will is for us? Well, in today’s reading, St. Paul says clearly to the Christians in Thessalonica, For this is the will of God, your sanctification. God’s will is for each one of us to be sanctified, to be so filled with His Holy Spirit that we are overflowing with His love, joy, peace, hope, light, humility, a...nd faithfulness. The will of God is for us to open up our hearts to welcome Him, to prioritize our lives by following His ways above all our own selfish and egocentric desires, to live lives of serving others, loving others, bringing light into dark places. Today, as we pray the Lord’s Prayer and say Thy Will Be Done let us remember His will is for us to be sanctified, for us to become holy like the saints. See more
