MONDAY after Epiphany & Memorial of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, religious + It used to be on old radios that you sometimes had to turn the dial back and forth ever so carefully until you could ‘tune in’ to the station clearly. The smallest turn to the right or left could give you static and/or lack of clarity. But now we have ‘digital dialing’ and if you are ‘1’ digital number off you can get that static and/or lack of clarity. But when you get the digital number of the s...tation exactly - well then, you get the clarity you seek. + Spiritually it is very similar. We need digital ‘locking on’ to the Christ, to His Words and Works, and to His relationship with the Father that ‘locks us’ into the same heavenly relationship with our God. Lying is static. Being too attracted or too dependent upon or too incapable of letting go of anything can create the same spiritual static and/or lack of clarity. As 1st John’s letter reminds us, it is so important that we remain in Him, and He in us so that we can maintain that clarity we seek deep within. It’s not magic. It’s not our imagination. Another way to put it might be to say that we are harmonious or in sync or in balance or sharing fullness or wholeness or completeness - or simply, we remain one with our God. + Jesus was 'thrown out' of His peace by the death of John the Baptist. And He was also ‘thrown into’ His ministry of calling people, all people, to repentance because the Kingdom of God is/was at hand. Immediately he became a living spiritual magnet to all who were ill or diseased or racked with pain or possessed or lunatics - they all came AT Him. They all came TO Him. And he cured them. + Clearly, Jesus was TOTALLY in sync and in harmony and balance and totally in relationship with the Father; and spiritual energy and spiritual blessing and spiritual life GUSHED out of Him. + Do you/I/we know that harmony with the Christ and with the Father? Are we ‘in sync’? Do we listen daily/minutely to the Christ and to the Father? Have we ‘tuned in’ digitally? Are we locked into that place where we can see/hear/feel/know/respond with clarity? Sunday 30th Week Ordinary Time + The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments. Is this hyperbole (exaggeration to make a point!)? How could a Jew (Jesus) make such a statement? For a Jew the law and the prophets sum up: love for God and the hearing of God’s voice in one’s daily life! In Christian terms it might be summed up: The whole gospel depends on these two commandments. Could we say that? We must! The Word of God in today’s scripture reading...s works together beautifully as usual. The first reading lays out before us what ‘love of neighbor’ looks like. You shall not molest or oppress an alien, for you were once aliens yourselves. You shall not wrong any widow or orphan. If you lend money to one of your poor neighborsyou shall not act like an extortioner toward him by demanding interest from him. If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, you shall return it to him before sunset; for this cloak of his is the only covering he has for his body. Love! Act humanely! Care for one another! Do unto others what you would want done unto you! Do no one harm! Love your neighbor as you love yourself! Andlove God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Why? How does God love us? No conditions! No limits! Loved us first! Loves us always! Loves for eternity! Loves us when we don’t love him! Loves the good and the bad, the bad and the good equally! Gives his sun and his Son and the rain and his reign to all! No questions asked! Just reflecting a tiny bit ought to lead us to this very simple yet very profound truth. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments. The whole gospel depends on these two commandments. Are we willing to hear this? Are we willing to open our hearts to this? Are we willing to live this? See more

Saturday 29th Week Ordinary Time + There are so many ways to say it: Stay connected to the source of Life. It seems so obvious us to us on so many levels but: We belong to Christ. That’s it in a nutshell. Do we or don’t we! We must decide. And for that matter is there any difference as we listen to the Gospel? Do you belong to Christ or not? All of the shenanigans that are wrapped around following or not following, belonging or not belonging, believing or not believing... - - when do we make our commitment to follow the Lord. Jesus gives us a parable. A fig tree planted but not producing. A gardenar begging: give it ‘one more year’. He put in the effort. He put in the love. He tried. Did he succeed? We don’t know. The Gospel doesn’t say. But - he tried! Do we? The Gospel invites us to be a people who hear, who listen, who respond, who accept, who follow, who find life! See more

Friday 29th Week Ordinary Time + In the seminary before you are/were ordained to the diaconate or priesthood, you MUST receive the CALL. The CALL was/is the formal invitation to receive and accept Holy Orders - that is, to be orddained. Did you get the call? I got the call! You could hear people joyfully share with their ‘brothers’ down the hallways that it was final - they could proceed the CALL - was given and received! + Paul shares a similar sense about receiv...ing and accepting the Way of Life that we call discipleship, following the Lord, Chrisitianity. It is sacred and real and all consuming - the CALL. He urges the Ephesians/us to "live in a manner worthy of the call you/we have received. He reminds us that they/we were called to one hope. A CALL is given. A CALL must be received. A CALL then must be lived again and again and again. We must BE worthy and REMAIN worthy of the CALL. + The early Christians had two things or issues to which they were called to constant readiness and it was always seen as urgent. One was the call to see/hear/accept/live the Kingdom of God that was there among them and in them. The other was the call to be ready and to see/hear/open up to the coming of Christ again - the second coming. They were to stay alert because they did not know the hour. In reality the call is the same and it is for all time - before, now and forever. We must stay alert and open and receptive to the call - the call to see/hear/feel/live/share the Kingdom, the Gospel, the Way, the Truth, the Life, Disicpleship with/in Christ. It is now! It is always! It is forever! See more
