The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy weather along the California coast beginning Tuesday afternoon. Some areas are forecasted to see breaking sur...f up to 35 feet along beaches and wind gusts up to 50 mph. "The last thing we want to happen over the holiday is for someone to be lost at sea while boating or visiting one of our beautiful beaches," said Capt. Art Snyder, the 11th Coast Guard District chief of response. "Please watch out for friends and family who may not know how dangerous the ocean can be and help them stay safe. It would be best for boaters to avoid getting underway during these storms, and beachgoers should find a safe position away from the shoreline if they want to see the ocean or watch the waves." The Coast Guard recommends that mariners and beachgoers take the following precautions: - Monitor the weather and heed all marine/weather warnings - Double check mooring lines on boats and take precautions for items stored loosely aboard - Secure all paddle-craft, so they do not end up in the water and create a false distress - Stay off rocks and jetties, as waves can be unpredictable - Beachgoers should stay away from the shoreline, where large waves can wash people out to sea More detailed weather information can be found at: https://www.weather.gov

Station Golden Gate’s close working relationship with local partners paid off with taking a firearm out of the hands of a prohibited person.

Today is the last day of #NationalSafeBoatingWeek. And while the Coast Guard trains everyday to help mariners, beach goers, and water sport enthusiasts who may ...find themselves in trouble, you can also help mitigate your risk by practicing all these tips. Remember, dress for the water temperature, bring a VHF radio, wear a life jacket, and develop a float plan. These four things can help save a life. Have a great and safe Memorial Day Weekend!

Despite popular belief, your cellphone is not the most important item to bring where ever you go. While taking in some rays out on the water, a marine-band VHF radio is the best means of communication on the ocean where cellular tower signals are known to be weak.
