California Medical Association President Peter N. Bretan, Jr., M.D. issued a statement today in response to the governor's announcement on regional stay-at-home orders. "As COVID-19 rates continue to reach record levels, our health care workers are doing heroic work under increasingly stressful conditions and at increased risk to themselves and their families. We want to thank the governor for continuing to make hard policy choices based on science and thank all Californians ...for making necessary sacrifices during these difficult times to keep each other safe, and to protect those that are working overtime to protect the health and well-being of others. We are all tired after nine months of this pandemic, and there is reason to be optimistic about what the year ahead will bring. But we are not there yet. The worst of this pandemic may be yet to come, but with the continued compliance and compassion for our fellow Californians, we can flatten the curve and get through this together. See more

California Medical Association President Peter N. Bretan Jr., M.D., today (Nov. 2) issued the following statement in response to recent statements from President Trump about physicians and COVID-19: As the COVID-19 pandemic has infected millions of Americans, physicians across the country have responded heroically, putting their own personal safety and self-interest aside in service to their patients. President Trump’s recent false and dangerous assertions that physicians ar...e inflating COVID-19 infection numbers for financial gain is offensive and categorically untrue. False statements like these are a slap in the face to those who have served bravely over the last several months amid a raging pandemic that is still out of control and is on the rise around the country. The health and well-being of millions of Americans have become unnecessarily and dangerously politicized. While we are at the apex of a long and stressful political season, we must be able to make public policy decisions in the interest of public health and safety that are guided by science and protecting communities across the country. CMA President Peter N. Bretan, Jr., M.D., issued the following statement in response to allegations of forced hysterectomies at ICE detention centers: "The California Medical Association (CMA) is gravely concerned by the recent whistleblower allegations regarding an irregularly high number of hysterectomies on women being held by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia. These allegations evoke dark chapters in our nation’s hi...story of government officials ordering unnecessary medical procedures on patients without their consent. Historically, these cases have often targeted communities of color and have been motivated by bad science and racial animosity. Unnecessary hysterectomies without explicit patient consent are fundamentally at odds with basic standards of the medical profession, not to mention human decency. Physicians take a lifelong oath to ‘do no harm’ and must cherish the patient-physician relationship, at the core of which is a patient’s right to receive information about and provide informed consent for medical care and procedures. Holding patients in facilities that directly jeopardize their health, let alone performing unwarranted and nonconsensual hysterectomies is a violation of CMA’s values. CMA supports oversight and improvement of health and human rights conditions in ICE detention facilities and we urge a thorough investigation into these deeply disturbing allegations." See more

On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, a drive-thru event was held at our location to provide PPE supplies to small and medium sized medical practices within the Stanislaus County. Big thanks to the California Medical Association, the State of California, and others for their generous donations of this much needed relief. Also, a special heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers that helped out!
