2016 STANFORD SPRING BOMBASTIC FINAL RESULTS On May 25, 2016, the 2016 Spring Bombastic Tournament came to a close. All of the flights were very competitive and many results came down to the last few rounds. In this format, each entrant had about 10 weeks to play up to 8 rounds, taking their lowest score on each hole over their rounds to determine their best cumulative score. Theoretically, this is what you should shoot on your best day!!!! Improving your score in rou...Continue reading

2015 Director’s Cup, Senior Championship and Super Senior Championship Saturday-Sunday, May 16-17, 2015 The three simultaneous events attracted a field of 30, who zoomed around the course in threesomes both days. The weather was dry and breezy and the course was firm and fast. Spirits were high and scores were low at least some of them! ... Congratulations to the intrepid Gene Weber, our 2015 Director’s Cup Champion! Gene torched the field with a blistering 10-under-par net 66-64=130. This victory was especially poignant because Gene recently returned to competition after recuperating from a shoulder injury, and this is the very first time he has ever been in the winners’ circle in a Stanford Men’s Club event (OK, maybe not the first; in fact, Gene has won so many events that it is rumored he essentially owns all the merchandise in the Golf Shop.). The Senior Championship was hotly contested. Rich Strock (75-77=152 gross) won this year’s crown in an exciting mini-playoff against the defending champ, Lane Nonnenberg (80-72). In the playoff, Rich punched a pitch from the 19th tee, under the tree and over the bunker, to about six feet from the white flag on the 18th green. How does he do that? The coveted Super Senior Championship for the over-70 crowd was won by Jack Tuite, whose gross 84 edged out runner up Richard Boyd by one shot. In response to vociferous outcry from the crowded field (of 5), the tournament committee is demanding a certified copy of Jack’s birth certificate. Here are the results: Senior Championship (gross) 1st: Rich Strock (152) (playoff) 2nd: Lane Nonnenberg (152) 3rd: Tom Keelin (157) 4th: Tucker Stanwood (158) (card match) 5th: Dean Sivara (158) Super Senior Championship (gross) 1st: Jack Tuite, 84 2nd: Richard Boyd 85 Directors Cup First Flight (net) 1st: Rich Strock (136) 2nd: Tom Keelin (141) 3rd: Tucker Stanwood (142) Directors Cup Second Flight Net 1st: Todd French (134) 2nd: Dave Wilkins (136) 3rd: John Friend (141) Directors Cup Third Flight Net 1st: John Shelton (134) 2nd: Bill Powar (135) 3rd: Mike Federle (138) Directors Cup Fourth Flight Net 1st: Duffie Kingston (133) (card match) 2nd: Steve Schramm (133) 3rd: Richard Sibley (147) (DISTANT third!) RED, WHITE AND BLUE TOURNAMENT Saturday, February 28, 2015 This new format was very well received by a field of 76 Players. The Round required everyone to hit from the Red, White and Blue Tees, and to strategize their way through 2-Player Better Ball, 4-Player Scramble, 2-Player Scramble and 2-Player Alternate Shot. Everyone teed off unsure about the weather, and the weather did not disappoint! After a sunny morning with occasional light sprinkles, the skies opened up ...and absolutely poured for about 20 minutes. The highlight was a 15 minutes Hailstorm that turned the fairways white and the greens into unplayable lakes of water. 14 of the 19 groups made it all the way around after waiting for the greens to drain. On Facebook, take a look at the pictures and video of the Hailstorm! Quite a memorable day. Here are the results: Closest to the Pin on 8: Gus James 3’6 Closest to the Pin on 14: John Van Natta 2’0 First Flight Net (Par was 105) 1st: Stanwood, Peters, Strock and Barksdale (87) 2nd: Gibson, McTeigue, Nonnenberg and Nonnenberg (92) 3rd: Atamaniuk, Stevens, Stevens and Stevens (93) Second Flight Net 1st: Kawakami, Kelly, Arrillaga and Ralston (86) 2nd: Burk, Wyatt, Schmidt and Blair (89) 3rd: Duffie, Brown, Krasner and Mike Harrison (92) Third Flight Net 1st: Chang, Chang, Wang and Wu (88) 2nd: Smith, Lewis, Oriunno and Frankel (97) 3rd: Sibley, Wagoner, Lathrop and Parrish (98)

PLAY THE COURSE AS YOU FIND IT Saturday, March 16, 2013 The Tournament kicked off with a full field of 27 groups and 108 players on a foggy Saturday morning this weekend. With the odd tee boxes, strange hole configurations and impossible pin placements from the evil mind of Ken Williams, it was a real adventure. Many of the shots were to hidden greens, even if it had been sunny. With the dense fog, however, especially on the back nine, none of the players had ...any real idea of where the ball would end up (welcome to my world), or whether or not there would be players in the way!! Luckily there were no casualties, but many psyches were challenged. Check out the pictures and Scoreboard posted with this Article. Here are the results: Low Gross Round (56): Atamaniuk, Stevens, Stevens and Stevens Low Net Round (54): Brown, Coleman, Mike Harrison and Schramm Closest to the Pin on 13: Carol Park 5’4 (she is not that tall) Closest to the Pin on 18: Jason Kang 2’ 7 Prizes for High Gross and High Net were also given, but the names are not included here to protect the reputations of those involved. First Flight Net 1st: Atamaniuk, Stevens, Stevens and Stevens (55) 2nd: Allyn, Brandin, Harrison and James (58) 3rd: Arora, Bakshi, Gaglani and Singh (58) 4th: Chen, McTeigue, Park and Swenson (59) Second Flight Net 1st: Brown, Coleman, Harrison and Krasner (54) 2nd: Abramson, Arrillaga, Kawakami and Kelly (58) 3rd: Barksdale, Barksdale, Strock and Strock (59) 4th: Hanson, Jeffries, Rogal and Song (62) Third Flight Net 1st: Agnew, Bono, Watson and Weiss (58) 2nd: Gadus, Kaplan, Neimeyer and O’Brien (58) 3rd: Andersen, Gould, Riley and Sangoram (59) 4th: Ciesinski, Ciesinski, Moore and Ralston (61) Upcoming Events: The Stanford Open, April 6, open to all members of the Stanford community Senior Exchanges (50 years and older) starting with a home match May 1 The President’s Cup, May 4-5, open to Men’s Club Members only The Senior Championship, May 18-19, Net and Gross, 55 years and older The Super Senior Championship, May 19, Net and Gross, 70 years and older Come out and join the fun!!!

POSTING SCORES DURING CLUB HOUSE RENOVATION As you may have heard, the entire Club House will be closed for renovation from around January 3 through at least the middle of February. There will be cosmetic upgrades to the offices, restaurant and bathrooms. The new restaurant operator, Coupa Café, will be taking over food and beverage service beginning in January. As I understand it, during the renovation, there will be temporary food and rest room facilities set up in th...e parking lot. There will be no admittance to the Club House, including the bathrooms, during the renovation. Posting Scores During Renovation. The NCGA Posting Computer will be moved temporarily from the Club House to the Golf Shop, although it may not be readily accessible. However, we strongly urge you to post your scores during this time on the Internet. The most convenient way is to download the free app from the NCGA called My NCGA. In a few seconds, you can easily post home and away scores on your phone or tablet. Of course, you can also post your scores at NCGA.org. As a last resort, I believe the Golf Shop will be setting up a score log where you can record your score and information for later posting on the computer by the Golf Shop staff. I assure you you can post your score using the My NCGA app in less time than it takes to walk down to the Golf Shop after the round. New Restaurant. There will be a dramatic change in the restaurant operation with the opening of the Coupa Café. Many of us have enjoyed the outstanding food at one of their current local locations3 on campus and one on Ramona in downtown Palo Alto. The new menu and operation, in conjunction with the Club House Renovation, should significantly increase the pleasure of eating at the golf course, either after your round or any other time. We are currently working with the Coupa Café to develop menus for our Men’s Club Tournament Luncheons and Breakfasts starting with our first tournament on Saturday, March 16, the popular Play The Course As You Find It Tournament. THE DEADLINE TO PAY MEN'S CLUB AND NCGA DUES IS TODAY!! IT IS THE LAST THING WRITTEN ON THE MAYAN CALENDAR!!!

2012 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS Here are the results of Matches played in the 2012 Stanford Club Championship Tournament through August 26: Championship Flight:... Maverick McNealy def. Bob Stevens 1 up. This was the marquee Match of the tournament fitting the defending and 3-time Club Champion, Bob Stevens, against the 2-time Club Champion, Maverick McNealy, age 16. It is a shame this match was played in the second round due to the manner in which juniors are seeded in the event. This exciting match was close all day, and was tied going into the 17th hole where Maverick was able to get up and down in spectacular fashion while Bob got into a tough lie in the back trap and took a bogey. The Match came down to the last putt on 18 when Bob barely missed a 20-foot birdie putt that would have sent the match into extra holes. Scott McNealy def. Jason Stevens 4 and 3. No details. Walter Barry def. Tucker Stanwood 4 and 2. Walter played steadily throughout the round shooting 4 over par. Even at the turn, Walter kept putting up pars to pull away on the back nine. First Flight: John Chladek def. Dakota McNealy 3 and 2. Even after hitting his first drive on #1 short of the road, John rallied to win. John wrote: Dakota is a good kid, but his back was clearly bothering him. Jeff Allyn def. Andy Atamaniuk 7 and 6. Andy wrote: Jeff won 7&6. Jeff played well shooting 37 on the front and winning the first 6 holes. He will be a contender for the Consolation finals. Rich Braugh def. Richard Boyd by default. Second Flight: Duf Sundheim def. Resounding NCGA Team Match Victory!!! Stop the Presses!!! For our first win of the year in the NCGA Team Match Competition, the Stanford team crushed Sequoyah Country Club 28-8 in a Match at the Stanford Golf Course on Thursday, July 26, 2012. The win brings the Team’s record to 1-3-1 going into the final Match next week on Thursday, August 2 at San Jose Country Club, a team Stanford played to a draw at Home in July. The victory over Sequoyah is one of the most dramatic... in Stanford Team Match Competition. Each of the 12 players on the Stanford team scored at least one point, and every Stanford pair defeated their rivals on points, in carrying the day against the Sequoyah team that had defeated the Stanford team at Sequoyah earlier this year. The results were as follows: Match 1: Ward Hanson and Jim Colton def. Sequoyah 6-0 Match 2: Suk Lee and Don Rogal def. Sequoyah 4-2 Match 3: Captain Jack Tuite and John Chladek def. Sequoyah 4-2 Match 4: Bryce Freeman and Bill Powar def. Sequoyah 4-2 Match 5: Dan Wagner and Tony Song def. Sequoyah 5-1 Match 6: Bob Brown and Ashvin Sangoram def. Sequoyah 5-1 Even though the results have been mixed this year, the team has been enthusiastic and loyal. This is a fun event and a chance for Stanford Men’s Section Members to play away matches at quality local courses. The faire includes golf, a cart and post-golf food and drink. Although Daily Fee Stanford players must pay their own green fees at the home matches, the camaraderie and the minimal cost makes this one of the true bargain benefits of membership in the Stanford Men’s Section. Sign-ups for next year’s season start in April or May, 2013, so look for the Invitation sent out through the Golf Fusion Website.

2012 NCGA NET AMATEUR QUALIFIER RESULTS Here are the results for the top 10 finishers in the NCGA Net Amateur Qualifier held July 14-22. The rules did require that each player designate his playing date at least the day before playing, and did require that each player submit an attested scorecard. We, the board, have adopted a policy of enforcing these rules. As a result, there were 2 disqualifications for guys who would otherwise have qualified. In addition, Bob Stevens shot... a net 70, but withdrew. The top 6 are eligible to play in the next round on September 13 at one of various courses offered by the NCGA. Our six will be playing either at Del Monte GC, Poppy Ridge GC or Chardonnay GC. The guys shooting a net 75 are listed in the order of the card off, using the net back nine score as the tie breaker (the net back nine score is indicated). If anyone backs out, the following order will be followed: Place Name Gross Hndcp Net 1 Duf Sundheim 77 14 63 2 Bryce Freemen 77 13 64 3 Tucker Stanwood 74 4 70 4 Chad Smith 89 18 71 5 John Barksdale 81 9 72 6 Darren Weber 85 10 75.35 7 Richard Fikes 103 28 75.36 8 Leslie Battersby 97 22 75.40 9 Andy Atamaniuk 80 5 75.40 10 Ashvin Sangoram 96 21 75.44 Congratulations and Good Luck!!!
