During challenging times -- and 2020 certainly qualifies -- our true colors shine through. In a year marred by a pandemic, racial injustice, divisive partisanship, and environmental disasters, we could not be prouder of how our Stanford Medicine community responded. In countless ways, you have soared to meet the immense trials of this moment -- while often reaching beyond yourselves to help others. Thank you for being part of this remarkable community. Each day, your courage, resilience, and empathy breathe life into Stanford Medicine's mission and make the impossible possible. We wish you health and peace this holiday season -- and a bright New Year.

'Tis the season for giving back--just ask 8-year-old Stella! For the past three years, Stella has been a Champion for Children by joining our Holiday Toy Drive. Last year, she brought in 8 wagons-full of toys to bring smiles and joy to our patients and their siblings! This year is a little different though. With COVID-19 restrictions, we're not able to collect toys in-person, but our patients need your help now more than ever. Our solution? Join Champions like Stella in our Virtual Toy Drive! Your donations will allow the Child Life and Creative Arts team to provide safe gifts for every child spending the holiday season in the hospital. bit.ly/VirtualToyDrive2020 via Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health

Halloween is a lot different this year at Packard Children's, but our Child Life team is giving our patients pumpkin to talk about. A parade weaved its way through each unit, dispensing treat bags, snacks and balloons to kids who peered out from their rooms to get a closer look at the spooky spectacle. A team of trolls hosted a special show from Sophie's Place Broadcast Studio, which included a Halloween costume showcase and storytelling time. Wishing all a Happy Halloween!

Little Captain America (aka Xavr) was released from the hospital on Halloween in 2013. For us, this is like his second birthday, says dad, Juan. Every Halloween since, they drive from their home in Carson City, NV to our hospital wearing shirts that read, Thank you for saving my son’s life. This year Halloween looks a little different for all of us. We’re sad to cancel our Trick-or-Treat Trail, but we still have some tricks up our sleeves! Will you be our Halloween Hero and help us save Halloween in our hospital by donating $20 today? supportLPCH.org/TrickorTreat2 (via Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health)
