St. Andrew’s campus may be closed, but we are committed to lifting up local virtual events in our community, like these ones celebrating Black filmmakers and actors. On February 9th there will be an advanced showing of the new film Judas and the Black Messiah. Register quickly, as these spots will fill up fast! Or be sure to check out the film after its official release on February 12th. https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSfbojExR-uy2cQYMF/viewform... Then, starting February 28th, enjoy more films by or about people of African descent through the Pan African Film and Arts Festival. https://www.paff.org/
There are some fantastic books in our little free library. Stop by and have a look next time you go for a walk in the neighborhood
We’re still meeting online and we’d love if you’d join us! The service meets on Zoom each Sunday at 10am. Visit our webpage to connect with us: https://www.standrews-wla.org/online
This month the St. Andrew's book club is trying something new: podcasts! As part of our commitment to anti-racism, we'll be exploring the topic of policing in our community by lifting up the conversations of black leaders. Please listen to the following three podcasts and we will discuss them on Thursday, January 21st at 7:00 pm : Code Switch An Immune System, Throughline The American Police, and Deconstructed "Is It Time To Defund The Police?" The discussion will take place via Zoom; see our website or contact the church office for a link.
We will respond with love. Unfortunately, someone choose to vandalize our Food Donation "Give-Get" station last night. St Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Los Angeles (ELCA) is undeterred and we quickly put up another tent. We hope you will join us in responding with love this MLK weekend by donating to My Friends House, Inc. (An incredible food ministry through Ascension Lutheran). Let's help feed even more people!
Here are a handful of pictures from the socially distanced Halloween event the neighborhood put on that we mapped out. Over 50 houses and hundreds of trick-or-treaters participated in this fun evening. For those that sat out this year as a precaution, we missed you and look forward to next year. For those that participated and followed the safety guidelines, we thank you for making this year a memorable one for our neighborhood and our kids.
Join us this Friday on Zoom from 5:00-6:30 for a storytime in honor of Project Night Night. Although we can’t gather to donate toys and blankets like we did last year, we still encourage you to donate to them if you’re able: http://www.projectnightnight.org/.
Please join us in supporting this great STEM community event to benefit the Westside Food Bank as well as our give/get. We're looking to collect 4000 cans of food in the next 17 days. Let's se if we can do it!
It was so good to see everyone at our Safe and Spooky Halloween event! We loved seeing all of the creative costumes and carved pumpkins
Earlier in the pandemic St. Andrew's identified some helping organizations to support. We are so proud of the great work East Side Riders BC. They're doing great work feeding hungry people during the pandemic. Please consider supporting their work.
A BIG thank you too our anonymous neighbor who un-vandalized our banner We hope more people will respond to hate with love Please show some love to our friends at @theuwcofficial (The Unique Woman's Coalition) for the great work they do in our community!
We believe Black Lives Are Sacred and we will keep showing up with love in our community. Please take this opportunity to support our friends at Unique Woman's Coalition (UWC) and to register to vote (CA deadline is Oct. 19th).
With our whole denomination, we condemn white supremacy.
Need a nice end to a rough week? Come over for Ice cream in the church parking lot. Happening now!
Thanks for the shout from our Councilmember and we hope everyone is enjoying their Slow Streets! https://www.facebook.com/MikeBoninCD11/posts/3655772281107954
God's love overflows from St. Andrew's in so many ways. Every year we support other organizations doing great work in our community. This year our ordinary fundraising has been disrupted (obviously)...so in addition to the funds the council has chosen to send, we are inviting you to join us in supporting our amazing friends at Allies for Every Child. Your funds will go to help families with children in need in Los Angeles. https://www.alliesforeverychild.org/
