Celebrating Black History Month with a look back at the Historical Portraits Project made in collaboration with the Los Angeles Public Library and displayed on the Central Library's large scale video wall. StandardVision supported the library's educational philosophies through this custom site-specific series of moving portraits celebrating iconic historical figures of Los Angeles. Seen here is Jefferson Edmonds, the founder and editor of The Liberator, an early 20th century newspaper which served the African American community in LA. StandardVision is featuring an excerpt from Act I of choreographer and filmmaker Lawrence Fung’s work "Unbreakable" on the SVLA1 screen in downtown LA. The piece is an abstract exploration of Jungian ideology, incorporating experimental visual compositions blended with contemporary movement.
In partnership with Maccarone Gallery, StandardVision will feature the first solo exhibition of LA-based artist Maggie West vibrant images of geological specimens from her series MINERALS across multiple large-scale media facades as part of a massive public art takeover throughout the city of Los Angeles. Catch the series on view across theses platforms from October 23rd - November 8th.
