Heartwarming story

You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do. Anne Lamott

Dear God, thank you for allowing me to make it to this new year. I know I’m one of the lucky ones. May we all be grateful for what is and hopeful for what can be. May we stay open, stay curious, and keep charging forward. Amen.

Dear friends: Father John Giuliani, the great iconographer, has died. He was well known for his beautiful icons that depicted Christ, the Holy Family and the Trinity with Native American imagery. His art was a reminder of Christ's entrance into all humanity. May he rest in peace. More about his life and art here: https://uscatholic.atavist.com/sacredfaces His website: http://www.jbgicon.com/

Once again, in light of some posts of recent days this bears repeating: In these turbulent and hypercharged times, there arises a need occasionally to state and restate that the purpose of this page is not to agree or disagree with what is posted but to reflect upon it. It is not a matter of the head but of the heart and the spirit on this page. Here at St. Alban's, we believe in sharing the love of God with all people regardless of their skin color, ethnicity, religious back...ground, sexual orientation, gender, financial status, country of origin or political affiliation. All are welcome here to celebrate and share God’s love. Some statements we post are not necessarily congruent with my life and at the same time, these statements are made many times by Christians whose lives have proven to be authentic and instructive. For that reason they hold value. Poetry is not everyone's cup of tea. Art does not speak to everyone. Every post is not for everyone nor will every post be in agreement with everyone's theology or opinions both personal and political. If it doesn't work for you that is fine. Perhaps another day it will. But we are not about making argumentative statements in response that can be distracting to others' opportunity to reflect on a post that speaks to them. Inciting to argument, name-calling, finger-pointing, and foul language will not be tolerated here. There are many pages where you can get into argumentative threads. This is not one of them. We do not hold with or allow misinformation or conspiracy theories. As followers of Jesus Christ we speak truth even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. Those who do not respect these simple rules for this page will be banned and have their posts removed without notice by page administrators. Thanks for considering this. Peace be with You!

Everywhere there are people who, despite finding themselves mired in periods of national [disruption] or personal marginalization refuse to give up the thought of a better future or give in to the allurements of a deteriorating present. They never lose hope that the values they learned in the best of times or the courage it takes to reclaim their world from the worst of times are worth the commitment of their lives. These people, the best of ourselves, are legion and they are everywhere. - Sister Joan Chittister

I love this story from Katharine Hepburn’s childhood; in her own words. Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one other family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. The way they were dressed, you could tell they didn't have a lot of money, but their clothes were neat and clean. The children wer...Continue reading

Today, many are feeling the anxiety of the external world closing in. We hope that, regardless of any of our perceived differences, you'll join us today in a 2-...minute practice of holding ourselves and each other in our deepest heart a place where, in the words of the mystic St. Catherine of Genoa, "my 'me' is God nor do I recognize any other 'me' except my God." When you feel overwhelmedtoday or any dayplease know this practice is our gift to you all of you, without exception, just as you are. See more
