St Martin de Porres Memorial-November 3 Martin was born the son of a Spanish nobleman and a former slave in Peru. As a young man, he trained as a barber and applied to be a servant at the Dominican Convent of the Holy Rosary, where he eventually took vows as a lay brother. Martin loved the menial tasks: cooking, cleaning, and feeding the unwanted and the abandoned. In the infirmary, he cured the sick, and in the backyard, he fed the mice, whose language he seemed to know. Mar...tin died in 1639 at the age of sixty. Feast of Saints Simon and Jude-October 28 Simon and Jude were among the twelve men Jesus chose to lead his Church. Mysteries of the Rosary In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. O God come to my aid; O Lord, make haste to help me. At the beginning of each decade, announce the "mystery" to be contemplated, for example, the first joyful mystery is "The Annunciation". After a short pause for reflection, recite the "Our Father", ten "Hail Marys" and the "Glory be to the Father". An invocation may be added after each decade. At the end of the Rosary, the Loreto Litany or some other Marian prayer is recited.
