Happy Saturday in the 30th Week of Ordinary Time! How many times have you heard the saying It’s better to give than to receive? I don’t know about you, but I remember first hearing that as a kid, and thinking to myself, Hmmm that’s pretty stupid. It’s AWESOME to get stuff. As time passed, though, I began to accumulate so many things that I was running out of space to keep them. So I did what any other normal person would do in that case. That’s right I built a shed...Continue reading

Happy Friday in the 30th Week of Ordinary Time! It was about 3:30AM a foggy Saturday morning some 25 years ago. I was wearily driving home from a long show I had played in Hollywood. Still in my Tuxedo, I bit into my 3:30AM Burrito dinner as I waited at a stoplight. The street-lamps spread a yellowish glow on a road which was completely quiet, fully barren of all people and empty of all cars. There was a wonderful, gentle peacefulness and stark quiet which I always enjo...Continue reading

Happy Thursday in the 30th Week of Ordinary Time! Our time on earth is filled with beautiful moments. Gifts from God of incredible grandeur and also of intense simplicity flood our days and our nights. From the Great Artist painting every sunrise and every sunset, to the flowers and trees; the love of friend and family to a joyful smile from a stranger, God showers us all with the most amazing gifts. And yet, there are times - many, I’d venture to guess - we must face thing...Continue reading

Happy Feast of Saints Simon & Jude, Apostles! October 28th Have you ever had to make a decision? ... Silly question, I know. We’re faced with so many moments in which we must make a choice. In nearly every single aspect of our lives, we are given options. We wake up choosing our clothing, our food, get into an automobile we’ve decided upon I have 6 separate routes I can take just to get to my office. How many books are there to read, or shows to watch? The possibilities are nearly endless. But as humans, though, we are so often forced to make choices which are very difficult. Discerning a call to the Religious Life, considering getting married and starting a family, or moving away from the only home you’ve ever known And even bigger, just imagine a cancer patient who has to weigh the value of continuing difficult medical treatments versus allowing the disease to take its course. Or a family member who feels as though a relationship is irreparable. Someone in Law Enforcement or the Military may have to, in a split second, decide to pull the trigger. When large decisions like this are looming, even the simple things can seem monumental. The Gospel today (Luke 6:12-16) describes the time that Jesus chose the 12 Apostles from the rest of his Disciples. This must have been a difficult decision for him, because the passage begins with him spending time alone retreating, reflecting, reckoning. Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12 Jesus retreated to a mountain top and spent the night praying to his Father. He set aside a time and place, without distraction, to talk things over with God and, also without distraction, to listen. It’s so difficult for us in our incredibly busy, fast-paced, and constant information-driven world to find places and times to pray and reflect without distraction. But we absolutely must create it. Our relationships are only made stronger by devoting time and opening our hearts to each other. Our decisions can be made clearer by eliminating that which pulls at our attention unnecessarily so we can truly focus on the most important, and listen for the answer. Do we create time and space to talk to God? More importantly do we listen? Peace and love to you today, and forever. -paul.

Happy Tuesday in the 30th Week of Ordinary Time! Do you remember your first Religion Book? Mine was the St Joseph Baltimore Catechism, which all of us kids got in the very early years of Elementary School. In fact, I still have it! One of the most interesting parts of the book, for me, were the drawings. To me as a kid, they seemed like photos, all in two-tone color of red and black. They depicted so many portions of our faith, such as the image of the Blessed Virgin Mar...Continue reading

Happy Monday of the 30th Week in Ordinary Time! While in elementary school, I had a friend who was, like me, a total clown. In my memory, he and I would continually strive to out-joke each other as though we were in a competition for some grand-prize and title YOU are the most hilarious of all the 5th grade! I hereby dub you King Goof - Bringer of Laughter and Angerer of Teachers. We actually never wanted to anger the teachers, but sometimes we just needed a big laugh....Continue reading
