The PEERS Coalition at SRJC is highlighting a faculty member every month, to acknowledge their outstanding efforts to create healthy environments in their class...es. The first Health and Wellness Champion is KAD instructor Karen Stanley. About creating a healthy class environment Karen says, Creating a sense of community in a classroom is vital to learning, feeling safe, supported and valued, and being engaged and inspired in a class. I try to build community by having students get to know each other, by encouraging students to share their own experiences, by asking everyone to honor confidentiality when sensitive/personal information is shared, by using the Socratic Method, and by sharing my own personal, relate-able experiences. When asked about her favorite #SRJC resources, Karen responds I love ALL the many resources on campus for students, but the ones I find myself using a lot to refer students to are Student Psychological Services, Student Health Services, Students 4 Recovery Club, and the newer Welcome and Connect Center. I love these resources because I have seen students' lives change again and again from using them. #WellnessWednesday See more

#WellnessWednesday brought to you by the PEERS Coalition at SRJC: Rapid HIV & Hepatitis C testing is a new free and confidential service at SRJC Student Health ...Services! Andres Correa, from Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, comes to our clinic on the Santa Rosa campus every Monday to offer these tests. Most people who have HIV or Hepatitis C have no symptoms. The testing is an easy finger stick, and the results are available in 20 minutes. A positive test will be confirmed by a second blood test. Knowing your status related to these infections is such an important advantage. There are medications to treat HIV and Hepatitis C that can be used to reduce the viral load and the risk of transmitting the infection to others.
