San Jose Senior Squadron 80 congratulates 1st Lt Tara Samuels for being promoted to the grade of Captain. Capt Samuels recently completed her AE Senior rating and earned the Grover Leoning Award (Level 3). Capt Samuels promotes Civil Air Patrol's AE mission externally through her NASA Solar System Ambassador appointment and her personally-developed Captain STEM (formerly, Captain Safetypants) program. It is in recognition of these efforts and her concerted push to complete requirements under demanding circumstances that this promotion was approved unanimously by the Senior Member Promotions Review Board.

A message from the San Jose Senior Squadron 80 Commander: The Fourth of July this year is unique from any of those I've celebrated both pre- and post- naturalization as a US Citizen back in April 2007. The nation and the world is in the grip of a massive pandemic, civil unrest relating to the principal that all peoples are created equal, and political divisiveness on a scale unseen in recent history. The history of this nation is not written by the politicians but by each i...ndividual willing to serve a purpose beyond themselves, to advance the rights of marginalized groups, and to sacrifice a part of themselves for another. Your service in Civil Air Patrol and your other endeavors are a testament to who you are, and I am proud to serve with each and every one of you. https://sq80.cawgcap.org/2020/07/04/independence-day/

At tomorrow's meeting, Capt Bob Beecher will discuss the various awards and ribbons in Civil Air Patrol; how to earn them; and how to ensure they end up on your record. Members serving on the current food bank mission, will be authorized to wear the Disaster Relief Ribbon w/ V-Device or add a clasp on their existing ribbon. While the ribbon itself is authorized by the Incident Commander(s), members are responsible for updating their own record to reflect this. Our own NASA Solar System Ambassador, 2d Lt Kailash Kalidoss, has reached over 1600 people in Melbourne, Australia and beyond. Congratulations to him on the on-going success of his public outreach on behalf of both NASA and CAP. Aerospace Education is a passion that both organizations share.
