The Bay Area’s three largest cities made headlines recently when they passed bold new rules to phase out fossil fuels in buildings. San José, San Francisco and Oakland now have plans to make most new construction all-electric. These actions will make the air cleaner to breathe and slash the region’s contributions to climate change.
Long before the COVID-19 pandemic and economic slowdown, California had the highest poverty rate in the nation. Our state is also one of the worst at getting benefits to those who need them, with some programs missing over a million eligible people. Streamlining and automating the application process would help Californians receive the public support they have a right to. Congratulations Jacob Denney!... #EconomicJustice https://www.spur.org/pub/spur-report/2020-12-07/mending-net

What does getting ready to go look like for most people? It often means gathering a wallet, phone and car keys. For most, getting somewhere means driving. Driving is the default option because it is most often easier and cheaper than transit or biking. SPUR’s Value Driven report shines a light on the invisible costs of driving and offers five strategies to address them. https://www.spur.org//shining-light-invisible-costs-driving
The Bay Area’s freeways often crawl with automobile traffic. This traffic even affects transit riders, as one of the most space-efficient transportation modesthe buscurrently fares no better on highways than the cars around it. This doesn’t have to be the norm. A number of U.S. regions are now leveraging their expansive freeway infrastructure to deliver fast and reliable regional transit. Express buses are running in freeway express lanes with median stations and direct access connections, allowing for consistent, unimpeded travel. Join us today at 12:30 to learn about how the cities of San Diego, Los Angeles and Seattle are expediting their regional express bus networks, and hear about plans to do the same here in the Bay Area.

Join us today at 12:30 for a FREE event, "Curating Cultural Experiences in an Unprecedented Time." The COVID-19 pandemic and new, Black Lives Matter-led, civil rights movement have forced many museums and other cultural institutions to rethink how, and for whom, they curate and produce content. What does it mean when museums can no longer permit visitors within their walls? How do these institutions adapt to meet the moment, and what is that outcome? And who is leading the groundswell of outdoor and immersive "exhibits" that are expanding where and for whom museums operate? We'll talk with the leaders of a brand new wave of institutions that are delivering innovative and immersive cultural experiences beyond the walls of museums and movie theaters.
