Meet Kassem AlHussein, our Team Manager for the 2020-21 season! He says, I am a transfer student who drove across the country to become an engineer in the Silicon Valley. Joining FSAE was one of the best career choices I have made. The welcoming environment and the fierce competition has put me on the path to becoming the type of engineer I want to be. It has forced me to apply all of the theoretical and technical knowledge I have learned throughout my educational career, and then some. From composites to structural analysis and from electrical circuitry to system kinematics, FSAE is where to learn and apply them all. If you are looking to advance your career, network and pick up a few life-long friends on the way, this is the place for you! #FormulaStudent #FSAE #SpartanRacing #SJSU #Racing #Cars #Motorsports

As you may know, Spartan Racing participates in a competition annually to demonstrate the performance of the car and more, but this year it was held online. We are proud of everyone who made the most of the time we had, and worked even harder during quarantine. We were one of 12 teams who placed 1st in the business presentation event! We hope you are all still staying safe. https://lnkd.in/gBkxewN #FormulaStudent #FSAE #SpartanRacing #SJSU #Racing #Cars #Motorsports

Meet Josiah Lopez, our president and business lead for the 20-21’ season. He says, "Spartan Racing is the most prestigious school organization that I have been involved with; every year we design, build, test, compete, and fully fund a race car in the name of fun and furthering our knowledge gained from the university. After the team's first kick-off meeting during my freshman year, I immediately joined the business team and stayed to their surprise. After four years of invol...vement, I have learned how to run the club inside and out from an operational standpoint. The main reason I joined this team was because I saw that it would provide me a unique opportunity to take what I learn in my manufacturing and business administration classes and implement some of those concepts through the business team in its day-to-day operations while still having a fun experience and making new connections. This however may not have been my story after high-school if it were not for funded STEAM related after school programs in high school and middle school including MESA, Botball Robotics, the ACE Mentor Program, PWTL and many other organizations including a visit from the Spartan Racing Electric team themselves to my high school. Thank-you for the positive influences, I now carry the torch." See more

Meet Mel Pardo, our president during the 19-20’ season! She shares that, I started in the aerodynamics team but quickly realized I did not feel part of the team because I didn’t think I had enough knowledge in cars to contribute. It felt discouraging to not have other women or people new to cars that I could relate to or work with. However, I didn't quit because I knew that there was more to formula than just a bunch of dudes building a car. When the opportunity to become ...president became available I was able to better understand the true value of the program and why it becomes so addicting. Being part of formula allows you to learn and expand your knowledge all the way from vehicle dynamics to finances. It inspires you to work hard because everyone else is also working hard towards the same common goal, to win! To build the best car. I'm grateful I was able to become part of this big, diverse, exciting family. I learned not only about race cars but also about how to manage an organization. I also learned that to be part of this team there is no need for prior knowledge and whether you are a female or not, there is always a place for you, for new talent. Every person in this team is special and unique and among the most capable and knowledgeable students, I have ever met. See more

Meet Arash Mehdipour, our chief engineer and a member of Spartan Racing for the past 4 years. He explains, "I came to a meeting on my first day at SJSU expecting to meet a group of people that were into cars. The meeting was for the performance requirements of SR-9, and the level of depth, knowledge, and passion for winning blew me away and has since changed my life and how I approach things. I found myself among a group of highly talented and passionate engineers willing to ...teach and share what they know with those around them, like myself. Over the years, I have learned a myriad of skills from welding and laying up carbon to vehicle modeling, leadership, public speaking, teamwork, and how to push myself and my abilities to the limit. I am indebted to all of the team members and alumni that have taught me these skills and helped me along the way, and I feel honored to have worked with them. While the competition breeds a lot of stress, sleeplessness, and often harsh criticism, the thing I love most about Spartan Racing is that it always felt like a family despite all of that. And I am forever grateful for being a part of that family." #FormulaStudent #FSAE #SpartanRacing #SJSU #Racing #Cars #Motorsports See more

We introduce to you Yu-Chien! One of our skilled drivers, and our past and present Team Manager. Don’t let his innocent smile deceive you, he is a stern and focused individual. He says, Prior to starting my bachelor's at SJSU I had known about Formula SAE through other friends who participated in the same program in other universities. I was intimidated initially and waited almost 2 years before finally deciding to join the team. If time traveling was possible I would have d...efinitely kicked myself in the bum for having waited at all. The experiences that I acquired are invaluable and the opportunities that I was exposed to were well beyond my expectations. The camaraderie that I built with this group is something I find very rewarding as we're all like-minded and driven towards common goals. If you're a motorsports enthusiast, business major, engineering major, or someone who loves to learn, then this is the place for you. See more

Moments like this make our hairs stand and these memories will be forever ingrained in our minds. In many (every) ways, it's like a Formula Student program but with a budget we can only ever dream of. @ WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

We could not be prouder of our graduating team members. We cannot thank you guys and girls enough for the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve put into this team. You will always be a member of Spartan Racing, and your work will be preserved. Surmounting the academic challenges at San Jose State University alone deserves praise and recognition. Adding a complex technical project that obligates countless hours and total commitment deserves applause and adulation. Doing it all in the... midst of a global pandemic deserves the World. We are all extremely disappointed that you cannot see your hard work culminate in a finished, living vehicle. But rest assured, we will complete the car in the coming months. We will take your vision and make it a loud and fast reality. We will even think of you while we enjoy driving it. And we know who to call when it breaks. This team is made up from people that come from all walks of life. We all have different beliefs, backgrounds, and interests, but we came together on this team to share a common goal -- to win, to build the best car that we could. But, the truth is that in the process, we became friends, we became a family, and that's what makes this team special. We are forever grateful to have you all as a part of the Spartan Racing family, and hope that wherever your next steps take you in life, you choose to remain a part of it. Congratulations graduates! Wishing you all a first place on your journey: Andrew Cruz, Andy Wong, Brandon Baeza, Chris Arzadon, Colin Kwan, Dan Foster, Daniel Gu, Jim Brahney, Mathew Blackburn, Nate Silva, Takafumi Nojima, Will Stryker, Yongmoon.

Meet our mentor, for things both racing and life, Harry! He is a High-Tech executive and entrepreneur, started career in software engineering, race-winning engineer with a group of General Motors engineers in SCCA Trans-Am and NASCAR Cup. Chief Engineer for Grand Prix of America, a startup founded by John DeLorean that was the predecessor of Malibu Grand Prix. Former SCCA and USAC racing license holder in formula and touring cars, and instructor/coach at numerous High-Perform...ance Driving Events and Autocross schools. He says Spartan Racing’s Formula SAE provides a unique way for men and women students across engineering disciplines including mechanical, aerospace, electrical, computer, and manufacturing finance, and marketing to learn to work as a team, grow their design, development, planning and leadership skills, by translating the theory and principles from classwork to the real-world, showcasing their skills to the most prestigious companies on the planet. In my time as an advisor, I have worked with students beginning with learning how to tighten a bolt to careers helping to build the rockets that will soon take people to Mars, competing at the Le Mans 24 hour race, and working at leading Silicon Valley companies building the next generation.
